Plugin.video.themoviedb.helper: Local Episodes from Netflix Info not playing

Created on 29 Apr 2020  路  10Comments  路  Source: jurialmunkey/plugin.video.themoviedb.helper

I previously posted an issue where when clicking play from within the Netflix Info screen of an episode, if the content was local it would play in the background (a bit like a trailer), and I had to click the "4 corners" button in Yatse or backspace to get the info screen and menu/homescreen overlay to disappear.

It seems in a recent version this was "fixed" but now local items don't play at all. If there is a local copy of the episode, it sends me back to home, but doesn't play the episode.

If, from homescreen widget itself I context and Play, it plays straight away. It's only from Netflix info screen play that local content isn't playing.

This add-on doesn't provide any type of "Netflix Info" interface... Are you using OpenInfo?

I'm using the Aura Mod skin. Understand that view isn't your addon, just confused why it's not playing local content from there now - but plays non-local content.

It seems to have only been the case since you fixed the bug where it played it like a trailer, instead of playing it full screen. That also only happened to local content.

Sounds to me like a skin issue, but I'm not the dev of this or AuraMOD, so I can't say for sure 馃槄

This is what happens when I click play from the Netflix Info Screen in Aura Mod:
EDIT: Let me dump this somewhere for easier reading

The main reason I'm thinking it's TMDB Helper related - not necessarily Aura Mod (or at least not just Aura Mod), is because this used to work, and Aura Mod hasn't been updated. It seems strange that it's only local content not playing (which hints at TMDB Helper issue), but then it seems strange it's only from that view (which hints at Aura Mod issue).

It would play, but play in the background (like a trailer). I had discussed that issue with you actually previously @drinfernoo

If you're referring to this issue: https://github.com/skyfsza/repository.auramod/issues/7

Then I wasn't the one you were talking to, and that is a skin issue, just like this one appears to be.

Ahh sorry, so it wasn't.

I told back to a version of Aura Mod from when this bug was occurring (playing in the background) and it no longer plays at all (i.e. the bug I've reported still occurs).

To be that suggests this is a TMDB helper bug?

It's hard to say - might be a skin issue or it might be related to a bug that is currently in Leia where where Kodi erases the FileNameAndPath property in the info dialog if the item is from a plugin but has a dbid (i.e. local library item). The FileNameAndPath is needed to play the item - so if it is blank, then it can't play. There's not a lot that can be done on the plugin side of things about this issue - it can be worked around in the skin though.

It should work perfectly fine when clicking play in the actual list of items though.

See this commit https://github.com/jurialmunkey/skin.arctic.horizon/commit/55f93c9c35599944f908f32e1cebf3efd3d58d27 in Arctic Horizon for a way that skins can workaround the bug until it is fixed in Kodi core.

@skyfsza - relevant to your interests.

@jurialmunkey thanks, will look to add this to the skin.
