Plots2: Onboard reviewers team members through welcomebot or something?

Created on 18 Jan 2021  路  4Comments  路  Source: publiclab/plots2

I love when people begin reviewing and supporting each other, and maybe we could do some more to make visible the invitation to do this, as have @Manasa2850 and @coder645 recently. Could we put it in our welcomebot message? Somewhere else? In our Readme? Other ideas? Let's brainstorm a bit and try to make more explicit invites to this, since we love it when people join this activity.

Here's a post we put up about it a couple years ago that could be a good source of text for such a message, and a good place to link to for more context when inviting people: Help Public Lab鈥檚 software grow by joining a supportive team

Maybe we could make it a section in our weekly check-in template?

cc @publiclab/maintainers @publiclab/soc and also cc'ing @publiclab/is-maintainers because perhaps we could include image-sequencer maintainers in some more of our weekly community recruiting/supporting/communcations!

Thanks, all!

It would be great if we could thank the reviewer.

I was going through the GitHub API, It doesn't seem like there's anything specific related to reviewers but we can thank everyone who all participated in the discussion. Maybe exclude the current review team and the PR author and ask them refer to a particular issue if they interested in joining xyz team.

What is usually the landing page for a new contributor?

hi @HarshKhandeparkar , mostly they use the toolbox https://code.publiclab.org/ and then we have the welcome bot messages that when they open an issue, make a PR and when a PR is merged https://github.com/publiclab/plots2/blob/main/.github/config.yml .Great idea @jywarren +1 on adding it in the readme and check-in ..not sure if this is possible but I will check it out, maybe after someone does their first review we have a bot ask them if they would like to be part of the reviewers team...is it possible to have a bot mention the name of the reviewer? because this might be confusing for the PR creator

Oh that's cool, like, the welcomebot message would have a section that says Reviewers: Thank you for... or something?

However, we want people who are already reviewing but aren't yet officially reviewers... so we could say Everyone who helped out: we'd love to have you join our reviewers team! or something.
