Clean-up existing spam

Hinder incoming spam

  • [x] To the current email notification in which the moderators get notified with the research note, their username, and the email they signed up with, ALSO include the contents of their user bio
  • [ ] Confirm that moderating first-time actions of any kind (comments, wiki edits, etc.,) is in the works -- what about "Likes"?
  • [x] Add questions to publiclab.org/signup. No issue yet (Please make one!), but is related to the overall design of the sign-up moment https://github.com/publiclab/plots2/issues/378 which is part of the "UI and newcomer onboarding" milestone
  • [x] Give options to non-moderators to flag content as spam. Suggested in https://github.com/publiclab/plots2/issues/1487 and in https://github.com/publiclab/plots2/issues/2321

Could the first listing page be built out from http://publiclab.org/spam ? Great ideas!

Hi, all -- i particularly like this one:

  • holding new profiles in moderation

but i think we could go a bit narrower -- what about hiding only the bio text, and as chris says "until some threshold of approved posting" like a comment or question (some type that is already moderated! comments are coming soon.)

we could show something like "Due to issues with spam content, your profile bio will be displayed only once you've posted on PublicLab.org or left a comment. Try asking a question to get started!"

We have some concrete ideas here:

  • Retroactive to include ALL profiles on PublicLab.org, HIDE profile bio content UNTIL a person takes an action on a site (like posting a note or a comment) that triggers review by moderators. Upon approval of that content, SHOW profile bio content.
  • Show text on someone's profile page like "Due to issues with spam content, your profile bio will be displayed only once you've posted on PublicLab.org or left a comment. Try asking a question to get started!"
  • Consider adding guidelines like "you can't use your profile page to advertise a business unrelated to and uninvolved with Public Lab's mission"
  • for initial "needs approval" email, include user bio content.
