Playnite: Authenticating with Epic: pollingId is invalid (Google IdP)

Created on 14 Sep 2019  路  11Comments  路  Source: JosefNemec/Playnite

When trying to authenticate with Epic using Google auth, I get an error reading, "pollingId is invalid" with Epic styling (red text on a dark gray background) after successful authentication with Google. Playnite does not register the authentication attempt as successful. Bummer. I can't import Epic uninstalled games since my account is Google auth based.

@mixels Playnite opens an in-app browser for that. The side effect is that, as it obviously doesn't share cookies with your actual browser, you have to re-login to your Google account, including 2FA procedures. Epic Launcher opted to use the actual browser to simplify this step.

But again: You can mitigate this issue very easily by going to Epic Store in your browser and adding a password to your account. This does not disable the Google login. You can use the password only for Playnite, and use Google login otherwise in the browser.

To be honest I've never tested it with Google auth. I'll look into it.

I had the same problem. I updated epic launcher and it was fixed.

My Epic launcher was just installed on this machine for the first time yesterday. No updates available.

I also have this issue, and my Epic launcher is also up to date (I just checked).

I have just encountered the same issue on GOG Galaxy 2.0. That probably means it's an issue on the Epic side.

EDIT: Note that it can be solved easily (I presume it will work with Playnite too) by logging to your Epic account in the browser and adding a password.

I will give this another try later tonight and see. If it's an Epic issue, it will probably have been fixed by now. Will update later.

I also had this problem. I updated the client by clicking the tiny gear icon in the lower left. It said there was an update and gave me a button to restart to install the update. I did so and then I was able to authenticate with Google with no problem.

Still getting "pollingId is invalid" after Google auth. I'm using a security key, which doesn't work in Playnite (that screen doesn't load fully until it times out and Google offers a different way to authenticate). When I use a different way to authenticate, I'm redirected back to an Epic page, where I'm met with that "pollingId is invalid" message on a dark gray background and "Epic Games" as the window title.

I'd be a little surprised if this is an Epic problem since both the Epic client and my browser against the Epic website can authenticate just fine.

Just reinstalled the Epic launcher to test if updating it had any effect. I still get the same error but I noticed something interesting. The Epic launcher itself does not do authentication in the app. It bounces the Google auth process to the default browser and hooks onto the tab. When authentication passes in the browser, the launcher redirects.

Playnite, by comparison, opens a new app window to do this same authentication. Maybe something to that.

I'm getting this as well using a Google account login. I can confirm that the workaround to set a password on the epic account directly and use that from Playnite does work,
