Plasmapy: A logo

@namurphy mentioned having talked with, if I remember correctly, NUMFOCUS people who said they'd put us on their web page if we had a website and a logo to go with it. The website is another issue, so let's discuss the logo here. Any suggestions for the design?

I've asked an artist friend of mine to have a try at designing a logo. I can ask him how it's going.

How about some interesting looking VDF?

Has anyone given this a go yet? My wife likes to do this kind of stuff some times and/or my sister is a designer/illustrator. I could see if they would want put something together for y'all to see.

I was actually thinking of measured data. I have some spacecraft
measurements that would probably be very useful for this. I just need to
sit down and pick out a spectrum to plot.

Both of those ideas sound cool! Give 'em both a go if you can :)

A while ago, Silvina Guidoni brought up the possibility of our logo being a python wrapping itself around magnetic field lines, with its path representing a particle orbit.

A possibility I was thinking of would be to have a python representing a magnetic flux rope, with magnetic field lines wrapping around the python. An extension of that would be to have a python with magnetic field lines wrapping around it and eating its own tail like an ouroboros, which would be very reminiscent of a tokamak and other toroidal magnetic confinement devices.

Perhaps we could brainstorm ideas here, and when we've come up with enough ideas, have a vote to narrow it down to ~1-2 options.

I had the exact same idea about the snake orbiting a field line!

  1. Snakes reconnecting!
  2. Tokamak/Stellerator around the Sun
  3. Lots of other snake ideas: Snake following particle path aroung B, B going around snake, ...

Should we perhaps push our logo-seeking endeavours to v0.2?

I've asked an artist friend of mine to have a try at designing a logo. I can ask him how it's going.

If we push it back to v0.2, and then get it done by v0.1, we can say we're ahead of schedule!

Soviet-style 5-year plan! I like it!

We can wrap up this issue since it is being covered on the PlasmaPy-logo rep.

PlasmaPy/PlasmaPy-logo#1 it (probably, guessing) is, then!
