Pip: Where on Windows 10 is pip.conf or pip.ini located?

Created on 25 Dec 2016  路  10Comments  路  Source: pypa/pip

  • Pip version: 9.0.1
  • Python version: 3.5.2 installed with Chocolatey
  • Operating System: Windows 10

Description:

What I've done: pip list

What has happened:

位 pip list
DEPRECATION: The default format will switch to columns in the future. You can use --format=(legacy|columns) (or define a format=(legacy|columns) in your pip.conf under the [list] section) to disable this warning.

What went wrong:

Nothing, but deprecation message is annoying and I can't locate any pip.conf or pip.ini to stop it.

NOTE: Python 3 installed with Chocolatey

In my case the file and the pip folder did not exist at mentioned location. I had to create them.

Thank you!

Quoting from https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/user_guide/#config-file

On Windows the configuration file is %APPDATA%\pip\pip.ini.

@pradyunsg %APPDATA%\pippip.ini << this folder doesn't have any folder pip, but I have pip installed. I don't really understand that...

If it doesn't exist, you'd have to create it.

You can also use the pip config command.

I don't see pip config as an option in pip 9.0.3

It was added in pip 10.

To check which config file is being looked at run: pip config --editor pathtoeditorofyourchoice edit, this will open the linked ini file. If it doesnt exist, the Editor (notepad++) will state that there is no file at a specific path <-- and there is your path where you should place the file then.
