SERIOUSLY?? No images with mysqli.so installed? REALLY? It's been a nightmare trying to get my PHP container to talk to a MySQL database using mod_mysqli, (mysqli.so). I see the section in the php.ini file, that there is support for this extension, but it doesn't know where the damn files are when you uncomment ";extension=mysqli" to "extension=mysqli". Should be all that's needed..

This should have worked, the files for mysqli are missing from the image entirely. I started up this image, and searched the entire filesystem for the mysqli.so file, Nada.
I found the TEMPLATE file I think was where the image was built from and I think these lines are missing from it. Dockerfile-debian.template https://github.com/docker-library/php/blob/master/Dockerfile-debian.template

I tried to build it, and there were many errors, I didn't have/find the needed configuration variables data. I tried other images, but seriously someone has to just try images until one works????
Docker Hub needs to improve its Tag listings for Repositories, make them searchable, and or add Filtering so someone can whittle down all the options a bit. PHP Repository literally has hundreds of tags. Wasn't looking for anything special but Vanilla PHP 7 or 5.6 with mysqli that can be activate. i will try the image: php:7.2-apache-stretch But I'm not sure how anyone is supposed to be able to find the image if they didn't already know the image name.

That template is the main one that all the debian versions are generated from. We only --enable specific modules for php that are extremely difficult or impossible to enable separately (which is why mysqli is not there).
If you look at the hub page, you can see a bulleted list of all the current tag sets under "_Supported tags and respective Dockerfile links_" and each of those link to the exact Dockerfile that was used to build that version. The pages of tags under the "Tags" tab contains all tags ever pushed, not just the currently supported ones. Here is the list item for the current 7.2-apache:
As for the mysqli extenstion, it works fine for me. Do you have some configuration in your custom php.ini that might conflict?

I see that the image does start and work fine, until I try to USE the
mysqli Object. The library files it's looking for are not where this build
is LOOKING for them.
I have an iMac Pro, running a 10-core 3.0GHz 10-core Intel Xeon W, running
Mojave, macOS 10.14.2 (18C54). Is there a possibility that's the issue
here?
I see that the module is installed in the /usr/local/etc/php/conf.d folder,
and its installed, when it loads it's throwing the error:

I am super frustrated here. I have spent way too much time on this, 2 days
several hours and I cannot seem to get this class to work.
I've managed to get a pretty huge c++ project working in a container, by
downloading the source from GitHub, perform a Compile, and a Build, and
then run it. This took like a hundred versions of a Dockerfile along with
the same on a docker-compose.yml file.
I'm by no means an expert here, a long time has passed since that project,
but I have managed to get some complex stuff with a container.
I have a completely fresh install of Docker. I'm basically trying the same
thing you have pasted above, and you're seems to work, and mine isn't.l .
HELP???

As for the mysqli extenstion, it works fine for me. Do you have some
configuration in your custom php.ini that might conflict?

Are you able to get the same results from this small reproducer here, where the files are verified to be in the location php is searching. I think the issue might be with your php.ini or some other environmental effect
$ docker build -t php:test - << EOF
FROM php:apache
RUN docker-php-ext-install mysqli
EOF

You could also try asking the Docker Community Forums, the Docker Community Slack, or Stack Overflow. As there isn't anything we can foreseeably change in the image to alleviate the issue your having, since these repositories are for issues with the image and not necessarily for questions of usability.
