Some users might want the software to automatically create albums e.g. like the iPhone does. Not sure if this is what we want. I would like to have more control over what the software does.
That might be a nice thing to do via custom plugins. So basically based on conditional interface dev community could produce a number of smart grouping plugins. This plugins would activate on a certain hook, lets say whenever a new picture added.
So on each new picture added based on metadata like date, people in the picture, geo location and etc plugins would suggest a number of albums to put these pictures in. These plugins could work in parallel, one grouping pictures by year and month, one by people, another by location and etc.
If that is not enough someone could produce another plugin to meet their logic either for themselves or also share with community.
Good idea!
Not sure about it because I just saw the Google Photos implementation which is kind of lame, it usually groups a bunch of unrelated photos when I'm taking more photos on a day than usually and names it like Saturday in [some meaningless reverse geocoded location]. Is the iPhone implementation any better?
Anyway I think this should be an opt-in setting/plugin rather than the default.
