ffmpeg related? https://github.com/phw/peek/issues/270#issuecomment-362956783
Without more information this is impossible to tell:
Thanks for the reply. I'll provide more information at some point. However when I open from the command line it appears to fork (?) the process so no logs are visible in the terminal. Is there a flag to prevent that?
Make sure no instance of Peek is running when launching it from command line, otherwise it will just reuse the existing process.
Great, thank you.

Are you guys running on Wayland or X11? Multiple monitors? Anything special about the recording area (e.g. spans accross monitors or partially outside the view)?
@phw
€ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE

Still no clue here. Maybe it is about the storage location, is there anything special about the location of $HOME/.cache/?
Interesting. I've checked the contents of $HOME/.cache/peek/ and the recordings I've made are here all right. For some reason Peek is not able to move them to specified destination. I'll try to verify whether it's an issue on my side or Peek's side.
I have the same symptoms, also arch. Nothing really strikes me as wrong in this log:
EDIT: and I also have the temporary files in ~/.cache/peek/.

@sdvillal And you also get the "Failed to measure available space" message? And Is this really the end of your output? there should be some activity afterwards
Like LazyBun my files save correctly in ~/.cache/peek. It just hangs on Rendering... presumably trying to save the file to the selected location.
I'm running arch on a desktop with 2 monitors, nothing special about the recording area.

have the same problem. it just stuck at rendering on Manjaro
I reverted to 1.2.0.1 and it works fine btw. any other version higher than that stucks at rendering including the git aur.
kernel 4.14.16-1-MANJARO
driver video-intel
gpu intel uhd graphics 620
cpu intel i7-8550u
I git bisected. Found no problem. Then I turned my attention to where the package comes from. Apparently the antergos repo. So probably we should report there:
https://github.com/Antergos/antergos-packages/blob/master/antergos/peek/PKGBUILD
Ok, had some idea in #279. Please try the latest from AUR and tell me if it works.
And please let me know which desktop environment you are using ( sdvillal has XFCE)
@sdvillal the fact that you are probably using the Antergos package somewhat ruins my theory :D But could you try the (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/peek/)?
@olsonpm Your problem looks different. You see the the file chooser, right? Actually there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your setup, all the messages looks normal. Post processing can take some while depending on the size and length of the recording. When you closed the Peek window it should have shown you a desktop notification, and unless you forcefully kill the Peek process it should finish rendering in the background and show another notification when it is finished. I assume you cancelled the process after you saw the messages on close?
@phw It always works if building from scratch - I have just tried your updated AUR. Works with GtkFileChooserNative ON and OFF. I think this is a no-action from your side, and just some packages need to be rebuilt - I guess antergos and manjaro for a start.
sorry, i think i forgot to mention at #279 that I am also using the antergos package!
the problem appears at: antergos/peek 1.2.2-1
but does not at: aur/peek 1.2.2-1
not a big deal when i can simply use the aur package instead - thanks!
@phw, i let it run for 30 minutes on a 16 second 500x300 clip. previously i ran it on a much larger screen clip size and did not have to wait long at all. Also note the rendering was saved just fine in the cache folder.
Edit: woooo @atar-axis solution worked for me.
Confirm using the AUR version works. It is an Antergos packaging issue.
The antergos package has already been fixed.
Yes, I also re-enabled the native file chooser on the AUR build again. Looking at the Antergos PKGBUILD I also cannot spot anything wrong, maybe the just have to rebuild it (and it looks like they did / do that, see https://github.com/Antergos/antergos-packages/commit/e242af03450194ec2cbf250c27204325dc2537ca#diff-864e41333d045ddbf1a1373ae7f3709e)
Closing this issue for now.
Edit: @sdvillal Thanks for confirming this, so it was just a rebuild.
