Openshot-qt: How to add custom fonts to animated titles ?

Created on 8 Oct 2017  Â·  13Comments  Â·  Source: OpenShot/openshot-qt

System Details: ? linux ?

  • Operating System / Distro: ubuntu 14.04
  • OpenShot Version: openshot-qt (2.4.0+0+834+116+201709070432~ubuntu14.04.1) ...
    or openshot 2.4.0 appimage

Issue Description and steps to reproduce:

I opened openshot 1.4.3 and it listed all my custom fonts from my computer, but in the 2.4.0 version, there are only 5 fonts available. How to add one ?

And is it possible to add the same effect but to an image rather to a text ? it would be immensely useful

In the Linux version, the directory /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/openshot_qt/blender
contains an .xml file for each Animated Title. Each of these contains fields for Fonts.

The ‘num‘ record can be filled with the full path to a font file so that you have something like

<param name="fontname" type="dropdown" title="Font Name" description=""> <values> <value name="Bfont" num="Bfont"/> <value name="LibSans Ital" num="/usr/share/fonts/truetype/liberation/LiberationSans-Italic.ttf"/> <value name="LibSerif Ital" num="/usr/share/fonts/truetype/liberation/LiberationSerif-Italic.ttf"/> </values> <default>Bfont</default> </param>

@BarbzYHOOL - Not sure. I'll check this out for you.

Still no idea? In the 1.4 version there are other fonts but it doesn't detect my blender.

The same problem with Debian 9 and 2.4.0 AppImage !!
No solution ???

No solution at the moment. We may build this feature into OpenShot in the future.

Really? Is there no way to do this? I mean, it uses Blender to do the rendering, right? I tried pointing Blenders 'font folder setting' to my special fonts, but no joy. Obviously it is possible inside Blender, but it would be great if Openshot could do it using ttf's.

Perhaps this is more of a Blender and/or API issue rather than OpenShot. But please do keep on looking for future releases. The devs, and us volunteers, we all would love us some good ol' manual font configurations

Thanks, I have found out that I can only use one font in animated title... BFont. All the others I see nothing. I am wondering if it is just me or is this true for everyone?

FYI: I am on Ubuntu MATE 18.04, Blender 2.79 and OpenShot 2.4.3.

I think it is an issue with everyone. I still haven't been able to figure out how to change fonts inside blender itself, to be honest. lol

Perhaps someone will someday figure out a solution and share it with the community? That's how Free Software Projects thrive, after all. :)

@revdav Thanks for that solution, will try that sometime soon... I hope there will be an easier way for those that are not comfortable with editing xml files. It should not be too hard to make an option in OpenShot?

Thanks everyone for reacting!

I would say that the issue should NOT be closed. There is still no easy way to change the font of animated titles...
