Openra: Building auto repair if player has over X credits.

An option for building auto repair would be quite nice. Have an option somewhere to set how much money a player wants to have saved up before stuff will auto-repair.

IE: Set your amount to 2500, if you have 4000 credits and a building gets damage it will start to repair on its own.

We discussed this and decided that automatizing the game further is of the agenda as the game should stay competitive.

I don't quite understand this. Does clicking repair button faster make you more competitive? Competitiveness should rather be based on actions that require intelligent reasoning and not on trivial tasks. If clicking repair faster makes one more competitive, then humans can never be as competitive as computer AI which can repair buildings instantly. Such trivial tasks should be automated and only actions that require intelligent reasoning and planning should be left to the player. I think it would be better for OpenRA to move more towards strategy and away from excessive micromanaging and tactics, although the ability to do those should be kept. I think it would be great if there was a button to switch automatic building repairs on and off.

I don't want the game to play itself. We already have a pretty good balance of strategy and tactics.

So you wouldn't have to use auto repair option if you don't want to.

It would put you at a disadvantage if you didn't.

Then you would realize that in order to win you would have to automate these tasks. It lets you focus on more important things. That's a good thing.

Edit: And it would be better if the game played itself at least in the sense that it managed immediate reactions. It already plays itself when units return fire, or ore trucks find ore fields... You wouldn't want to make ore trucks collect ore only from tiles that the player explicitly ordered, would you? That's an automation, and it makes you focus on more important things, the things that actually make the game fun, not such dumb manual actions.

I'm not convinced tbh

I am more interested in #3748 because it will involve the action of several players, working together to save their buildings, a teamwork.

Automated repairs would be interesting if OpenRA had even bigger maps and advanced production queue mechanics as described in https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/issues/2997#issuecomment-22486399.

For the moment, I think #3748 will be enough.

We now have that in our Lua library for scripted AI https://github.com/OpenRA/OpenRA/commit/800665579bd5bd291cfdc64f792c22febda000f7.

Automated things like this are a big :-1: from me.
