Thanks for notifying the issue. Did you build Open3D from source or install it via pip? If installed via pip, I would recommend build from source for now. We are preparing a fix for pip install.

Our pip package wasn't compiled with python3.6.
This issue has been fixed in 0.3.0 release.

Now we support python 2.7, 3.5 and 3.6, with pip/conda

# Inside conda virtualenv
pip install open3d-python

Hi guys, I am so sorry to bother you all with this problem it is already solved, but I found the same problem, I was working pretty well with my installation of Open3d through normal pip and conda but now it happens again this problem. Could any of you give a clue? I know the solution is doing the installation again by source, but I wanna know if we will encounter this problem always. (IBy the way, have an ubuntu xenial)

The line from open3d.linux import * is from an old version of open3d. Try

pip install open3d-python -U

The updated init file shall look like this https://github.com/IntelVCL/Open3D/blob/master/src/Python/Package/open3d/__init__.py.

Sorry to bother you on a closed issue, but I'm having the same issue, using ubuntu 20.04, python 3.8, and I installed the package using pip3 install open3d-python.
Is there any release compatible with new versions of python (3.7, 3.8)?

@pvnieo I am in the same boat. I guess they do not have any release available yet for python >3.7. Thus, either you wait for it to be available or you compile it yourself.

Actually installing the open3d package instead from pypi solved the issue to my end. It seems to be more often updated.

I had the same issue and I solved it by uninstalling open3d-python and installing open3d using a conda channel, instead.

pip uninstall open3d-python==0.2.0.2
conda install -c open3d-admin open3d==<version number>
