the extension does not appear to find the SDK anymore for the .NET Core 3 RTW version released today. With a clean installation of Ubuntu 19.04, attempting to open a newly created dotnet new console project throws an The SDK 'Microsoft.NET.Sdk' specified could not be found. error in the OmniSharp console.

I've just updated to .net core 3. Loaded VSCode. Update for Omnisharp. Now can't build with the same error. Im on a mac.

I believe this is due to Omnisharp, not shipping with the correct version of MSBuild for .Net Core 3. Omnisharp ships with MSBuild 15. Dotnet Core 3 uses version 16. If you can install vs2019, that will install msbuild version 16, and everything should work as expected.

This is why downgrading to 2.2 works fine. 2.2 uses msbuild 15.

Unfortunately vs 2019 isnt available on Linux, so this workaround does not work for Linux. I am not sure if there is another way to update, but I suspect we will be stuck waiting for omnisharp to update its msbuild version

This issue is really a duplicate of #3290
The difference is that the problem from "this" issue you'd experience when you only have .NET Core 3.0 SDK installed (no other ones) whereas the problem from "that" issue you'd experience when you have 3.0 SDK installed + other SDKs installed too (i.e. 2.2).

Either way, this should be fixed in the latest Omnisharp 1.34.4.

also, if you used a custom OmniSharp version via "omnisharp.path": .... setting I recommend you now remove it - as you'd be stuck on an old build.

This _still_ is not fixed. How did they not think about this with the rollout of .NET Core 3.0?

OmniSharp has been planning and preparing for .NET Core 3.0 for months. We have been shipping with MsBuild 16 since April and supported all preview releases of .NET Core 3.0. However, at the last moment - between last preview and .NET Core 3.0 RTM, the .NET Core team raised the minimum MSBuild version from 16.0 to 16.3, which was the root cause of the problem.

This happens in .net 5.0 also every once in a while some of my projects starts getting this error. So anoyed i dont know whats happening or how to fix it always playing with omnisharp setup such a lame extension

After installing a new SDK, you have to run the dotnet restore command from the root folder of your project to resolve this issue manually (based on my experience!). If you don't want to do it every time, lock the SDK version using the global.json file.

@VahidN the problem is that omnisharp uses wrong ms build version and you have to specify which to use but its not easy to do and its not explained correctly
