Nylas-mail: Bug: Using scroll wheel in email list

Created on 4 May 2016  路  6Comments  路  Source: nylas/nylas-mail

I've noticed that using the scroll wheel on my mouse when hovering over the email list is causing unread email to be marked read! I assume the scroll wheel is moving the highlighted email up and down and not using the vertical scroll bar.

I think N1 has had this updated recently as I notice the scroll wheel working differently. Maybe in previous releases is was the smooth scrolling and now its quite obviously jumping from between email in the email list.

Hey thanks for reporting this. I'll see if we can reproduce. We might have to go buy a mouse with a scroll wheel :-)

I've tried to reproduce this but have failed. But I;ve had this problem two or three times since the new update. I'll keep trying.

Hi,

I've seen this a few times now, only for the new 'unread' folder.

It occurs seems when I click on a mail, use the scroll wheel with the pointer over the email content. When the unread folder receives new email in the list (I see the email list scroll down as N1 adds new unread email to the top of the list, the scroll wheel scrolls the email list and not the email content. And when scrolling it marks some emails as read.

Maybe that will give you something to look at.

It would be nice for N1 not to scroll the email list in the unread folder when it's adding new unread emails to the list. It is annoying when concentrating on a specific and then the it being read disappears of the bottom of the email list.

Maybe this could solve the problem and make the unread folder nicer to interact with.

OK, I've managed to reproduce this in the 'unread' folder.

  1. Click on the 'unread' folder
  2. Assuming you have lots of unread email
  3. Click on an email that's fetching content from the Internet and takes time to render the email
  4. Whilst the email is building move your pointer over the mail and try to scroll down & up the email.

What I find in the email list is the unread highlight moves up and starts marking emails as read.

Note 1: Not sure this is related to how fast you scroll down and up.
Note 2: This does not work if you mark emails as unread and try again. I think its connected with N1 downloading the email content and emails you've already read may cache the contents.
