Nylas-mail: Feature Request: Change label colors

Created on 23 Dec 2015  路  8Comments  路  Source: nylas/nylas-mail

I have labels setup in Gmail, and for example, one of these labels is the color _yellow_; but in NylasN1--it's showing up as _purple_.

I personally love how airmail handles label colors. You don't pick the color yourself, but the software does a nice gradient for all your labels :

+1. According to https://github.com/nylas/N1/issues/510#issuecomment-160738544 and the gmail API this is not possible.

@jstejada Can this task be renamed to Feature Request: Change label colors because the current _purple_ color for every label is extremely frustrating. Secondly, can this be added to the roadmap for voting? Once this is added https://trello.com/c/UI16Nkc7/13-manage-labels-on-a-per-account-basis it sounds feasible to add a color picker to the gui.

Edit: Related with possible lack of APIs where a custom color picker would fix #1024

Hi @patrickheeney - yep I'll add this to Trello. Thanks!

+1 for Gradient. Right now all my label colors are that same tacky purple color (horrible UX with dozens of labels). The gradient idea would be perfect to quickly solve this issue. Later they could re-factor to make these customizable and still default to the gradient.

+11 for Gradient

My comments on #2339 are as follows:

Ok, I understand the Google label color limitation, which is fine. I don't use label colors myself. Most of these tickets are closed around label color, but one #808 has the fine distinction of proposing a gradient (like airmail). That would be a big improvement over random. Colors mean something, so random colors are discombobulating. If I could choose a grey (like the sidebar without colors) that would be fine. A better option would be a gradient because that would inform me better about where in the list of labels I am (and I use priority + alpha sort, so it would match my mental model).

Better: grey labels as an option or default
Best: gradient labels as an option or default
Superbest: choice of random color, grey, or gradient label
Superbest++: same on the sidebar (issue #1803 )

I use red and green Gmail labels for emails from CI, so automatically assigned gradient colors are pretty much the worst option for me.

Note that AirMail's gradient just picks the _default_ label color. It definitely allows you to manually assign colors.
