Notes: Having distributed meetings in VR

This community is incredible, it has experts from cryptography to virtual reality.
Let me propose something - that @jbenet mentioned a few times in real life, but I actually took it quite seriously: having distributed meetings in VR!

Let's collect a list of what are the best tools to do this, please share your experiences (also, if someone wants to build a p2p videoconferencing tool using IPFS that would be awesome!)

What we need

  • whiteboard
  • multiplayer
  • realtime
  • way to save/record whiteboard or conversations

Possible ideas

  • Engage
  • Altspace
  • Tiltbrush (does not work yet)
  • Big Screen

Suggested

  • JanusVR
  • Minecraft

JanusVR is an option, as well as minecraft (With VR plugins?)

In my experience, minecraft is surprisingly immersive with respect to social interactions (given voice chat).

I would love to do something like this, but there should be something that is accessible in the web or desktop as well, with no Head Mounted Display. HMDs are a huge barrier for people.

We should look at all these apps and see which can be accessed normally. i believe Janus and HF can be

WebVR is coming out for the general public August 5th by Firefox in Firefox55. Anyone without a headset could participate and it could be built in A-Frame. https://aframe.io/examples/ They already have a networking component using Firebase. https://github.com/ngokevin/kframe see: Firebase.
My question is how IPFS could speed up serving of large data for VR or can't it? I have a friend who owns a virtual reality company in Denver that could setup IPFS specifically for serving large VR data files.

Gladly subscribing to this thread. I'm an open-source game developer, and IPFS has recently gotten me interested in the possibility of serverless decentralized multiplayer environments. I'd suggest reading the post I just made on this subject today for my own vision and ideas:

Would this be relevant perhaps? https://github.com/webmixedreality/exokit/issues/452

I'm focusing on bringing Dat to exokit, but I think IPFS integration would be pretty much the same.
