Node: About GitHub's ban on Iranian developers effect on Node.js

Created on 27 Jul 2019  路  5Comments  路  Source: nodejs/node

Hi everyone,

GitHub recently banned some developers from Iran and other areas (details in github-do-not-ban-us)
Does this impact Node.js projects? If yes, what actions do we plan to take?

As far as I understand it, flagged accounts are only banned from accessing private repositories and using paid services. According to Nat Friedman, public repositories are not affected. However, I am not sure if interaction with our private repositories might be restricted for flagged accounts.

Do we know if any Node.js core contributors have been affected by the action?

From everything that I've read on the issue, there's nothing that really can or should be done here. As Node.js is a public open source project, the project should be unaffected by the action directly, but it may impact individual developers.

That's not good. Thanks for letting us know. We should keep it in mind when using private repositories (which we rarely do).

Closing as this affected only private repositories.
Please reopen if the issue is blocking development
