I tried reinstalling XCode and its command line tools, removing ~/.node-gyp, and installing under a different version of node (8.1.0).

I recently did a bit of data migration back and forth from a couple computers as my main one was being repaired, and problems started shortly after that. I'm not sure what I might have re-installed or where I may have messed things up ~

It sounds like your Xcode install is borked. Perhaps try rm -rf /Applications/Xcode.app/ and reinstall. Make sure there is nothing in ~/Applications either.

Borked indeed. A reinstall wasn't doing the trick. After some digging around, I found the solution: For those coming here with the same problem, try g++ -v. Before the fix, I was getting:

It looks like this is due to an improperly configured SDKROOT. To fix:

export SDKROOT=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.13.sdk

Where the version referenced at the end of the path is your current OS. For me, this was the only version in that directory other than a generic MacOSX. Put it at the bottom of your ~/.bash_profile or ~/.zshrc or whatever your shell loads up with, then open up a new terminal and try g++ -v once more.

Ah, then perhaps xcode-select -s /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.13.sdk is a fix, too.
