I too wondered how to pronounce the name of this awesome piece of software and found the answer in their docs:

I assume this comes fro the root work "grok", meaning in (in this sense) to "completely understand, or "become one with". The term was initially coined in the science fiction novel "Stranger in a Strange Land". So I would guess the meaning is "to become one with".
