Created on 21 Oct 2020  Â·  59Comments  Â·  Source: TeamNewPipe/NewPipe

Fixed: Update to 0.20.2. You can update using TeamNewPipe's F-Droid repository or the GitHub releases page. It should be available on the official F-Droid repository in the next days.

Newpipe stopped working, probably some changes server-side on YouTube? I don't known, suddenly I can't play any video (not even touched my phone today and yesterday was playing fine. Enough talking here, the error report:

Sure it's not a network problem? Works fine for me.

Youtube.com and the normal youtube app both work fine for me, so I don't think it's a network problem. Youtube-dl works fine too.

Definitely not a network problem, I have the same issue.

@opusforlife2 i think this is new version from this issue #3753 after https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipeExtractor/commit/19e862657a821d133aae38a3011235a584c740cd

It works well for me.

0.20.1 was working for me until today. So most likely a server side issue.

Sure it's not a network problem? Works fine for me.
I don't think it is, I was using wifi, tried using 4G and the error persisted.

But here is the most intriguing workaround.
If you have this problem:
1 - Export your database on settings > content
2 - Clear the app data on android settings
3 - Import your database BUT no matter what DON'T OVERWRITE your settings when asked, for some unknown reason as soon I overwrite the settings, the same error returned.

Some extra information: I tried to pin point the settings that give the error, activating every single setting and trying to reproduce the effect, nothing worked :/
Maybe when you import your database + settings on the settings import you have some extra hidden config data being imported? I got really confused here.
The problem with this workaround: you need to reconfigure all your settings again.
I hope this help those who had the same problem and even help the devs find why this is happening.

Disclaimer: English is not my mother tongue, sorry for any mistakes (• ◡•)

Same error if i go from chrome to newpipe

Same problem here, BUT this is not the first time, it happened as well with the 0.19.8 version and persisted for 3 weeks till I cleared the data then it worked fine for a few days and the probelm was back, and repeat.
I thought something was off on my side cause no one opened an issue but seems I'm not the only one.

Yes, it happens sometime, but now I noticed the problem with every video I go through chrome google search result

Same for me when opening any video.

Does the 'database import minus settings' workaround work for all of you?

Does the 'database import minus settings' workaround work for all of you?

Worked for me.

Having similar issue. I'll try the export and import trick meanwhile below is the report.

Does the 'database import minus settings' workaround work for all of you?

Surprisingly, it works.

maybe it something related to cookie/captcha.

Yes, captcha cookie is the real reason behind it. simply i used root

and modified this file

/data/data/org.schabi.newpipe/shared_prefs/org.schabi.newpipe_preferences.xml

and modified this line

 <string name="recaptcha_cookies_key">VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=K50gTjnNmT0; YSC=6ea-hyS9teE; VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=K50gTjnNmT0; YSC=6ea-hyS9teE; GPS=1</string>

Replaced it's value to blank, now it's work also with import setting.

as far as i noticed, in v20 something was like to reset captcha cookie.

Thank you for investigating! Yes, there is a setting to clear captcha cookies that is already merged for the next version.

Thank you for investigating! Yes, there is a setting to clear captcha cookies that is already merged for the next version.

but it's not right to include captcha cookies too in import export setting. i think it's need to be exclude for sure.

okay, so we have to wait for next version.

thanks, i will wait.

Yes, it should be in the cache & history category

Can someone paste this into reddit. The top post on the r/newpipe subreddit is asking about this, no one has put the workaround in the comments and I don't have a reddit account

Infact there are two posts about it. Please post the workaround to every comment thread of both posts

This kind of solution actualy not a solution, because settings backup is required, no one would like to do again & again. I believe it will create issue again if you face captcha anywhere, so i think it's not something to share everywhere. I believe newpipe will release a new version soon.

The work around helped. But I still got this error on few videos. I can watch the latest video from that channel. But have this error when I tried this particular clip. Few other videos are also having issues.

maybe it something related to cookie/captcha.

If ReCaptcha is going to be introduced on YouTube, this may name the end for non-browser tools that crawl the YouTube website. There are no robust ways to bypass it.

They also seem to have shut down the legacy mobile versions of the website about a year ago, so those versions can't be used as a workaround anymore, like it's still possible with Google Translate, for instance.

WE'RE DOOMED

probably new pattern, gradually deployed.

try using a system proxy to another country (Russia/Israel), to see if different clusters of servers render something else.

kill app, clear cache before.

@bodqhrohro, less drama please.

Guys we don't need the same crash report posted again and again. They all contain the same thing.

I am also getting this thing but only sometimes not on all videos. The previous version was working 100% perfectly fine. The issue is since I updated the new pipe to 0.20.1

This is a change on Youtube's end. If you use 0.19 you'll get "Could not load decryption code" instead.

Sure it's not a network problem? Works fine for me.

I did this and it only worked to remove the captcha cache. When trying to watch a video again the captcha test was shown again, after solving the video is played in web player inside the app, it's really weird, then when I try to watch another video from the app it's simply getting the same error.

So all in all, this solution is not working for me, and seems Google is changing their policy regarding serving videos anonymously, it seems to be hitting hard this app.

My short investigation on it, I'll look back at it probably tomorrow

npe_439.zip

I did not follow the NewPipe developpement lately but I understood this issue was hard to fix because it does not happen everytime, well just for loop 15 times in the @BeforeClass in a test, here, and in these 15 tries you'll end up once with a three failed attempt. just pick the initialAjaxJson instead of throwing the exception three attempts failed

YouTube did not provide player config even after three attempts

To replicate this error, first I search for a video and play it, then pick another song from the search results and play again, sometime I get error or the second video loaded with its title and comments, but not the video itself. Lastly, the successfully played video's volume went maximum and shocked.

I am receiving this issue also. Opening any video brings up a crash error message. Clearing cashe and data doesn't repair the issue. Below is the crash message:

Yes we do

Clearing cashe and data doesn't repair the issue.

Did you try it several times?

Please don't repost the crash log. We don't need 150 of them

This should be added to the title, who reads all the discussion? ;)

You'd think that the crash report in the zeroth comment would be a clear sign. :P

At the time of writing, this issue occurs when opening any (and every) video. Proposed workaround is no longer working.

Use the APK in https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipeExtractor/pull/441#issuecomment-716890310 temporarily.

This goes for everyone who commented in this issue.

I'm getting the same error on every video as of now 26/10/20 GMT 10PM

Its happening to me, too. I love newpipe but is getting worse with every update.

Thanks man, about 2 hours ago suddenly the error returned to every video again, and even on a fresh install I was getting the error. This apk seems to work pretty fine.

r/titlegore btw xD

Ever since 2 pm the problem persists what could be causing this if earlier it seemed to work.

Locking temporarily. Use the APK linked in the top comment, people.

with the newest update, youtube problems ceased for now. a big thank you for all contributors! this app is my go-to app when watching YT videos.

When can we expect the update to be live? I experience the same issue right now and F-Droid says that all apps are up to date.

@Andre601 Which version you have installed – maybe it's 0.20.2?

FYI: I updated my F-Droid repositories yesterday in the evening and got an update for the new version (0.20.2 with the information Added on 28/10/2020).

I've added the f-droid repo newpipe hosts and had to reinstall the app, but it works now

I had the same problem, but I updated to 0.20.2 (using the apk available at link) and everything is working perfectly now thanks and very very much Dev's :D

truly remarkable!!

the only thing that could make this app better would be an integration with lbry.tv so u could download video straight into it! 😆

(also more search filters)

thanks so much for this amazing, amazing app!!!

Hello, I can't find version 0.20.2 but only 0.20.1 on F-Droid ? Thanks.
