Is there an open channel for more "informal" discussions related to Nest?
I want to contribute more I would like to chat with the creators a little bit more, or share things I've created with Nest etc. Issues are often not the best place to start these kinds of discussions. So I suggest something like Discord / Gitter / Slack / Subreddit.
I suggest a platform which supports different channels like Discord or Slack, so contributors / core developers could chat in a dedicated channel and would not get polluted with beginner questions.

@SebastianPodgajny thanks, oversaw that in the readme :)
Hmm the Gitter channel seems to be a little bit unsorted. Seems like there are only channel for different repositories, but not different disscussion topics. I think creating such rooms is not possible with Gitter?
If so I would love to communicate with the community on websites like Discord / Slack / Reddit.
A subreddit would be cool, don't think there is enough traffic to justify a seperate chat server, but we could possibly join an existing one like https://www.reddit.com/r/mobilewebdev/comments/5a0jil/speakjs_a_discord_server_for_all_things_javascript/ (angular focussed discord group with decent traffic), which would increase visibility too
I think discord channel would be a good idea.
I'm afraid that another discussion's platform may bring too much confusion. Maybe instead, we could create a few channels on top of gitter(?). What do you think? I'd be glad to create some interesting ones to split certain topics across corresponding chats.
I think discord could be more useful
@kamilmysliwiec if this is possible in Gitter I'm in. Do not really care if it is Discord or Gitter, since both seem to have proven itself (e.g. Angular uses Gitter, Cryptocurrency IOTA or Fortnite uses Discord)
Gitter is good on desktop but lacks usability on mobile, +1 for discord.
It would be great to create Discord server with multiple text and voice channels. Also, will be cool to add some bot fro tracking Nest repositories updates, may be this one: https://github.com/Falconerd/discord-bot-github
+1 for Discord, I honestly think Gitter is way too limited and unusable on mobile.
What do you guys think of Spectrum? https://spectrum.chat/
+1 for discord, a lot of communities use it

telegram can be suitable for it too
I also really like Discord. What about creating a Discord server for NestJS on top of gitter and then we will see how well it is adopted compared to Gitter in order to make a final decision?
Discord sounds good for me as well , i dont talk much but i read almost
every issues and messages from anyone

@kamilmysliwiec Is my suggestion to try Discord and reevaluate the decision in the future again ok for you?
Rocket.chat is also really good, but I feel like a lot of people are also on Slack. Either way, we _definitely_ need some better form of community. It feels to hard for newbies to get access to experts, and the Gitter is, as this issue says, very cluttered.
I can definitely get behind Slack as that is my main form of communication.
I am a lot on slack as well
@adrien2p @yharaskrik
Guys please use the “emoji poll” of the issue to vote for a discussion channel
@brunnerlivio for some reason the slack option doesn't show up when I click the emoji button...
Oh wait no I'm just a little slow. It's a different laughing emoji in the post and the options GitHub gives me...
@BrunnerLivio as an org member you can delete other people's messages if they clutter the conversation.
Honestly, if we want to switch from Gitter, I would vote for Slack. I'm using Slack every day, it's very popular in a lot of companies these days. It would be great to have Nest community much closer, and discord is just another app for conversations.
I’d vote Slack as well as it is my communication medium on a daily basis
14 people voted for Discord, 5 for Slack. Personally I'd prefer Discord as well, however Slack is much better than Gitter as well. What's your plan about this @kamilmysliwiec ? Livio started the discussion 3 months ago and apparently no one wants to stay with Gitter (according to the comments and vote results). Can we switch to another channel?
@weeco I respect the opinion of the community, if we all want to switch, we'll do it. Maintaining two channels (gitter and X) at once is impossible, hence, the change involves updating a lot of readmes. Before making a final decision, I would love to hear more voice. This is a very critical change in fact and we must bear this in mind.
Opinion based comment:
On those Discord servers, a user can join very quickly the discussion even if he is just "curious", so in my opinion it will attract more members...
Bonus point for Discord: Their app is lighter...

We haven't got any further votes for at least 10 days now. Do you still want to wait for more feedback @kamilmysliwiec ?
Excellent discussion, I have worked in companies that use slack, but because the focus is open source we opted for Rocket.chat, but as an internal channel of the company we use the Telegram officially. However, I support an open-source choice.
Another bump. Any update @kamilmysliwiec ?
Eventually, With slack, you will not be able to view (and search) past logs unless you change to a paying plan.
That point discord is completely free.
You can ask for a free plan for open source if I remember correctly
(talking about slack)

But I could be looking in the wrong spot.
What about https://rocket.chat ?
I see that a large majority of the community agrees that Discord might be potentially the best choice. However, I'm somewhat afraid about how to preserve a good conversation culture, taking into account that with Discord you're not forced to have twitter/github/gitlab account (what about trolls let's say that could just put a nickname and offend others). I suppose that we would have to form a group of people who would like to keep order in all channels (to ensure that everyone can feel comfortable there)
Discord has a variety of counter measurements against trolls. Such as a verification level which forces someone to be registered at discord longer than x minutes/hours, or has to be joined to the server for x minutes etc.
Discord is better prepared against trolls than any of the other options I believe. Registering a new twitter/github account is probably easier than bypassing the anti troll measurements from Discord.
Even though I am not afraid of trolls it's probably a good idea to have a couple trusted persons with advanced permissions to mainly configure the server. Add/edit channels, bots (such as a github bot), adapt it's setting where needed etc.
Yet another bump, it's been half a year now. We haven't got any further votes for at least one or two months as well.
any update on this?
@Usama-Tahir
@kamilmysliwiec and I came to the conclusion that we try out Discord. I am currently setting up the channels and the permissions. We will make the server public in the next few days! :)
Its here :D
IMPORTANT: This is just a public beta. This is just a feasibility if Discord fits our needs. Maybe channels will get added or REMOVED in the next couple of months! We do not take any responsibility of the messages in the beta.
Gitter is still the official communication channel as of now. But we are keen on switching to Discord, as soon as we have enough feedback.
If you have any further ideas which channels we should add, please check out the #discord-ideas channel :)
Note: Bots and hooks are not configured yet. We will add these later on !
@BrunnerLivio I am trying to join the discord channel but I don't get the verification email for some reason, I already checked my spam folder and there's nothing there. Any way around this?
edit: NVM, there's a typo in my email, sorry about that.
