Neon-wallet: Several people have lost Neo due to a fluke in the Neon wallet and Ledger Nano S.

I ask all that experienced this problem, join this thread so we can compare notes.
Hopefully; we can get Neo and Ledger to join the support, instead of claim 3rd party software.
On December 22, I installed Neon Wallet 0.0.7. After connecting to Ledger Nano S, I transferred 108 Neo from the Bittrex exchange, using copy/paste of public key in Neon wallet. ...I kept the wallet open until I saw the transaction complete. It showed my transfer as expected. I closed the wallet and went to bed. (1:00 AM)
The next morning, I opened the Neon wallet to check it out. There was a ZERO balance. After more examination, I realized, the public key was different. That makes two public keys, and only one being addressed by Neon wallet attached to Ledger.
In my search for support, I found my way here on gethub ... https://github.com/CityOfZion/neon-wallet/issues/416. The person who posted that thread invited me to "discord.cityofzion.io" We are getting referred back here.
Coranos got involved in that discussion, and finally gave up. I quote him here:
"Sir, your neo is gone.
Finding the defect that caused your car to explode is not the same thing as un-exploding your car.
Simmilarly, imagining ways a car can explode is not helpful, when trying to find why a specific car exploded in a specific way.
Best I can do at this point is to warn people that at some point, their car may explode, and they better test their recovery process at least once before putting more than 2 NEO in any address.
I've muted this thread."
I feel like it is something else that blew up like a car. My "bullion/Neo" in the car/wallet is still lost. Where can we go to find the answer to recover the missing Neo? There is more than just a couple of us.
To add chaos to the problem; On Jan 10, I upgraded to the Neon wallet from 0.0.7 to 0.0.9. Now I have another public key. That makes three, the one that got the Neo, the new one I had the next morning, and the one I have now. I have uninstalled the Neon wallet and reinstalled, still the third public key. Even if I uninstall ver 0.0.9 and reinstall 0.0.7, I get the third key. (I have reinstalled it back to 0.0.9) When I run my 24 Ledger phrase, through https://coranos.github.io/neo/ledger-nano-s/recovery/, it now returns the third public key at the top of the list.

This happened to me a few days ago. Setup my wallet connected to nano fine. sent a few tests before sending the rest (only 7 coins). Yesterday reconnected app and zero balance with a 100% new address. Is there anything we can do? I can see my coins sitting in the public address (the original one created). I am guessing these are gone. I have tried recovering from 24 pass etc and nothing.

Update: I had in fact had a temp passphrase. After recovery > entering old passphrase I got the original address!

Have tried recovering your private key and public key pairings that are able to be produced from your 24 word phrase? I had issues that were never resolved with no transactions ever confirming and decided to try and get my private key using the BIP-39 Recovery Tool offline. When I used the tool it gave me a bunch of public/private key pairings, you may be able to find the matching keys. My key was first in the list and I just opened it in Neotracker.io.

@OrEagle97327 I have reset my Nano many times and recovered with the mnemonic seed. I did this before being "comfortable" storing my Neo there (i.e. I sent some testnet GAS to it, then reset it, recovered from my passphrase, and verified the testnet GAS was still there - it was). Provided your mnemonic seed is correct, you run zero risk resetting your device. The only time it should change/disappear is if you've set a passphrase on top of this (so 24 word seed + single word for an "extended" seed). Then, if you wipe the device, you'll have to restore your seed and set up the passphrase as well.

Paranoid about this now. I downgraded from 0.0.9 to 0.0.7. What should I do to prevent this from happening?
I have already signed some transactions earlier today. Am on the latest macOS as well. Greatly appreciate the insights.

Echoing @stechico's comments. I haven't experienced the issue, but I'm running 0.0.9 on latest macOS.
I've seen that @coranos has tried valiantly to reproduce the bug, without success. That's encouraging to me.
All the same, would love a security blanket here. Has there yet been a successful diagnosis of the problem?

So, @stechico this is _not_ the same problem as the problem I've been looking at.
Your coins were stolen. Your ledger address remained the same, but the coins were transferred elsewhere. The problem I was looking at is where your ledger address changed, and the coins were still at the old address.
For anyone that had the address change on them, were you able to claim gas at the first address, before it changed?
The only way I've been able to reproduce the problem is by creating noise on the USB line which flipped a few bits. That shouldn't be considered a "normal" scenario.

I lost my Neo while using Neon wallet, ver 0.0.7. Wallet ver 0.0.9 has some good upgrades.
@coranos Would unplugging the USB from the Ledger at the wrong time, create the noise you refer to?
I am maintaining this thread to post warning and support to others who follow. One user whom has been in these conversation has lost 1900 Neo or more. Make my 108, kinda paltry. (still painful)

Unplugging the USB or just having it not fully seated would cause the noise, yes, or a frayed wire.
Claiming gas would test that scenario, as you can only claim gas with a valid key combination.

With this feature, you can create, open and manage a second (and hidden) wallet attached to a specific passphrase, wallet accessible when you connect your Nano S with another PIN code. As long as your session will be open with this PIN code, you will be able to access it. When you disconnect your Nano S or when you quit the standby mode, you will be asked a PIN code, then you can choose to reopen this one or enter the main PIN code.
Open the "Settings" of the Nano S
Select "Security"
Select "Passphrase"
Select "Attach to a PIN"
Enter a second and new PIN code
Confirm this new code
Enter and confirm a secret passphrase (100 characters max)
Enter your first main PIN code to validate
Then during the rest of your session until the Nano S is disconnected, you will run an hidden wallet. Next time you will enter your PIN code, you will choose which PIN code you want to enter, main one or second one.
You can't set a third PIN code. If you ever set a new PIN code attached to a passphrase, it would erase the first one. To manage more than 1 hidden wallet you need to use the "temporary passphrase" option.

you could definitely have done that, but then to recover you should be able to just use the same pin and it'll use the same hidden wallet. or just use the same passphrase.
I don't know much about the "hidden passphrase" options, but messing with it and forgetting what you did would definitely screw you over.

Uh, um, that's quite a box.
By default, the recovery tool does not require a passphrase. So by default it returns the wallet not attached to a passphrase.
There is no second hidden wallet with "no" passphrase, it's a second hidden wallet "with" a passphrase.
The first wallet, the one you see by default, is the one "without" a passphrase.

I have been conferring with others who have suffered loss due to this fluke.
I did "not" do any of the steps to set up a passphrase. Others say the same.
As I study this; ...the symptoms are just like there is a "passphrase" wallet just waiting for us to access.
Am I too far outside the box, for this to be possible?
With my limited experience, I know not, how to test or search this kind of theory.
I would like to hear Ledger has looked into this kind of possibility.
Does the CityOfZion community, have specialist in the Ledger security settings, willing to consider this?
Is this a matter of; Who pays for the research?
...I have 108 Neo, to donate to the community, as a reward fund, when the solution is found.
Tell me what more I can do to keep the community involved in finding the solution.
Others have suffered also. While painful, I will be fine.
Just has to be worth someone's time. Neo should be all over this.
The others will appreciate it, I am sure.
I have read that over 3000 Neo has been lost to this "undocumented feature"

From what I gather so far from the thread:
- Don't set a passphrase on the default, first one that comes "without".
Does that mean leaving it alone, its more likely to be recovered with the linked recovery tool?
- Make sure to have the USB wire and the Ledger be in a position that's stable when in use with the computer; to avoid freakish bit updates caused by faulty wires, etc.
Anything else for those of us that are in the high-level area of this subject? Thanks

Always try to send from the new address to a wif address (or to my donation address).
I have an idea on how to detect when this error occurs, but it'll be a month or two before I can implement it. The general idea is to send an encrypted public key along with the plain public key and then decrypt it on the client side. It's basically a checksum that can only fail if the encryption fails.
But to do this I need to know how to encrypt/decrypt rather than just sign, which requires research.

Following the thread above, I notice, through comments, "iancoleman" is the owner of the bip39 repository.
Is "iancoleman" available for input here and the other threads listed with similar problems.
Can the Bip39 tool, be updated to do "wild card" searches for "passphrase" ??
i.e. "* . * " - "???jk?M*" - or other combinations.
(novice here, trying to think outside the box)
Are the other public/private keys in the list now exposed to security risks?

Ok, maybe this app thing is a lead. I saw on several forums and Ledger public forum that when their app didn't show any balance, they were asked to clear their app cache, or even uninstall/reinstall it.
Alexandre's only answer from the support to my ticket was to do so -because they had errors in their API-, and I just answered him that my issue was not related to the chrome app.
BUT that seems to mean that their bug was related to an issue with the address, right?
So my idea is :
IF I plugged my Ledger with a defective version of the app, maybe this one was "initialized" with a defective address. And then when went to connect to the online wallet, this address was referenced in the Ledger as the default one.
After unplugging the Ledger / closing the app / re-plugging the Ledger, the "good" address (which is not the good one for us unfortunately) could have pop up again, in a definitive way...
What do you think?

I sent 1 NEO with the intention of buying DBC the coins haven’t arrived in my wallet and the transaction is showing an invocation, I’m sure that means a lot more to you than me. Will I ever see my NEO or DBC coin again and if so, either would be great. Hope you can sort this out for me, I love the innovation and am willing to invest but things such as these make me realise how fragile it all is.

Ok, well our issues seem very identical, and the common thing is the Ledger...
As I said before, for me it seems related to a wrong derivation path set internally in the Ledger.
But we need some feedback from the support!!!
I am very motivated to solve my and your issues, because for me it's a lot of money lol... otherwise I would have give up, I feel so stressed, angry and upset these days...

Seem the issue could be: ..."phantom/hidden" wallets still open, when users think they have moved on.
Hopefully devs will incorporate "close wallet" more aggressively. (HoweverThatCouldBe)
While considering common ground, another issue to consider; ...Where these transactions come from. My observation: Most were from the Bittrex exchange, a few were from Binance. I know of none that were from other than these two exchanges. Let me also note here: Bittrex's ...Neo wallet has been unavailable for some time now.
Most were on Mac OS while I know of two on PC/Win10.
Do others have input on common ground. These and others.

@OrEagle97327 Sorry to hear that (I'm also a ledger user). Just thinking out loud - is there any chance that just before sending funds to your 1st NEO address, you played with the ledger settings clicking on the 'temporary passphrase' option and entered something (maybe just something simple like 'a' or 'aa' which would result in showing you different addresses till next time your restarted your device)?

@Gazby Hopefully someone here can help. This is why I set up this thread. I am kind of a newbee myself.
My Neo is still unavailable for the time being, and possibly forever.
May I suggest you try to take notes, on every step you have done so we can try to replicate "what went wrong" so the devs here can help.
Your issue has a variation than mine, and others I have conferred with.
Have you been in and out of the Neon wallet, more than once, when zero balance occurred?
You are still on version 0.0.7, so was I. There have been several versions released since.
(Feels like we are the beta test grounds here.)
May I suggest; Wait to compare notes before, upgrading to a newer version of Neon Wallet

Somebody solved his problem (xrp wallet) with this, but for myself I never touched this option...
And the issue would appear ONLY if you reset your Ledger in between, right?
I tried a reset/restore of the device, but it wasn't working already before that.

When he first used the Ledger, he set up a passphrase.
Then reset the Ledger, and forgot to set the passphrase again.
He reconnected his Ledger again > that lead to the same issue as us which is different public address.
And yesterday, he remembered that at the first setup he added a passphrase.
He entered it again, and found his first address.

I don't understand why users are left alone with no advices, here, on mew, or on Ledger support...
Nobody seems to care...
Did you see on my Mew ticket, I found an interesting file in my recovery data named "ledger-ethereum-chrome-logs-1515971263779.logs".
In this file I can see transactions listed at the same time I did my withdrawals, on the 14th of january.
Except that I wasn't doing any transactions from the chrome app (was using mew), and the txids, and the from addresses have nothing to do with my transactions!
I also have after each transaction the error "org.json.JSONException: No value for to"
This is freaking... Maybe all the issues with transactions stucked, or missing accounts could be related to our issues?

Some people are getting completely crazy... But I think for most of them it's only server issues and their issues will be solved automatically. For us I fear that we'll never get any help.

So I have a solution in the works that should prevent this from happening in the future, but it's going to take a month or so to implement.
Nobody has done it before, so it's not something I can just plug in.
Here's the solution:
Sign the public key, and check the signature on the client side before using it.
It should be cryptographically impossible for the public key to be signed by the private key, and also be a valid public key/signature combination.
I know of 12 people that lost NEO, Etherium and Ripple due to this bug.
You should look, I mean, at least you'll know.

Hello,
I sent two (2) NEO from Binance to my Ledger Nano S wallet, however after approximately an hour, my balance is still not reflected on my NEO Ledger Nano S. When i check the scan, it shows that it was successfully sent and Binance shows a "successful" confirmation on their end as well.

it will not be quick, so the recommendation for NEO is to always send 1 NEO and claim gas on your ledger before sending any large amounts.

It's covered in their example code, but their example is in python, and I'll have to port it to JavaScript.
Their example is how to validate a signature given a public key. If I sign the public key, then either the signature is invalid (and validation fails) or the public key is invalid (and validation fails) so it should be a sufficient fix.

Ive seen the fixes, but my issue seems to be the device itself. Ive been trying to get Ledger to address it for over 2 weeks. The reason I wound up on this site. On the Nano manager I get Hardware Device error

Ok so Hardware Device error means your ledger nano is bad and you need to buy a new one or get them to ship you a replacement.
If you just want to get your coins out, you can use the recovery site to recover a WIF:

Sort of over my head - even though I had a more than basic computer background a couple dozen years ago.
I have found what looks to be a Neo Keystore file dated just about the time I downloaded Neon Wallet 0.0.7. Think it is empty Neo wallet, but I do not know enough to try to access it.
I was thinking of asking one of you how to wildcard scan my hard drive for any files that look like Keystore / JSON File(s) with dates close to my loss. (including hidden files) anywhere on the system
I am on a pc/win10 system. Been careful not to do any wipe routines (that I control).

You can try to search at first your public address, or keyword "cipherparam", or the name of the wallet, etc.

@numero41 No worries at all - I wasn't trying to cause tensions either; just wanted to try and prevent this chat from turning into a thread where we end up "ripping on" the devs. I know sometimes one or two people will make a statement like the above, then a lot more people end up getting mad because the devs can't implement the claimed simple code quickly :)

I have done some of the things you suggest. Wildcard search of address Neo went to (nothing)
Just wondering what kind of letter or words would be in a Neo Keystore file.
Eth Keystore files starts with "UTC" plus dated created (I think)
Then I will wildcard scan the hard drive and any thub drives I had at the time.
I am so simple I do not know how to use the trackers and the like.

I'm a dev for 20 years, I work for CG industry, I do python 9 hours a day and I love it lol
And I also know the difficult relationship dev/users sometimes. I have a lot of users, 30% of my time is solving bugs.
That's also why I am so involved in finding a solution for all of us.
If Ledger provides some code to assure full integrity of transactions (2 years old code), why didn't they advise to use it from the start, that's strange.
So whatever happens from now, I won't give up on this.

I said "it will not be quick", not "it will be hard".
Like five lines of code, but you write one bug and the world comes breathing down your shoulders.
So, forgive me, but I want to make sure to test it thoroughly.
This is fixing a bug that happened only 14 times between Oct 2017 and Jan 2018, odds of hitting it upwards of 1 in 40,000 given the number of ledgers sold. You are more likely to be killed at work than hit this bug. So I want to make sure it's fixed, and for good.

Anyway, knowing the existence of the possibility of the bug, even so little, knowing how to prevent it, involves Ledger responsibility to me for now.

I had same problem as described in OP on my Mac running OS X 10.11.6, and then (several hours later) installed the Neon wallet on a tablet running Windows 10 Pro, hooked up my Ledger Nano S, and the GAS showed up when I plugged in my Ledger to the Windows computer... WHEW!

You can search on your hard drive (most likely in the userData folder) for keywords such as :
blockSize, accounts, address.

Your keystore file contains these keywords, with associated values, those are the informations that the wallet app needs to decode your private key, and generate your public address.
It's called a dictionnary.
Even if the keystore file is deleted, you might be able to find the correct content in cache files from Chrome, most likely sql or blob files.
You can also use a tool to recover "permanently" deleted files such as

be sure to recover those files on an external hard drive with at least 200Gb free space, then search for a file beginning with "UTC" or the keywords I gave above.
If you manage to recover a keystore file, you'll still need the associated password to access the account.

It's important that they write down their issue as soon as possible.
I had an email from Eric today, they are willing to find a solution.
I have the feeling he is taking this very seriously and want the issues addressed to him directly.
He told me the support team is not involved anymore and that he is our interlocutor from now on.
But if people don't manifest themselves they won't be contacted by magic and they'll remain with their issue.
It's important for us too to show that we are more than 3.
If they did not send ticket id, they just could give me or you their names, emails, and description of the issue (steps, OS, firewall, antivirus, dates, details) so that we send the relevant informations directly to Eric.

My 1 lost Neo mysteriously appeared in my wallet a couple of days ago. I am very grateful to whoever spent time recovering it. I think any platform will have teething problems, especially of this magnitude, i expect that all issues will be sorted eventually. The scale is immense and growing, a shame to waste developer time on resolving these issues but on the upside, i guess the more problems resolved now will lead to a more stable, idiot proof and secure platform. I have faith in the project and negative slanderous comments will likely be advantageous in the long run for us Hodlers. It's frustrating yes, especially if you bought loads i expect but at least you cant panic sell at the wrong time and i'm sure they will reappear soon enough. If you are trading i'm sure that it is more than inconvenient but personally i'm delighted as traders attempt to manipulate markets and often make their money from people with very little with money that is often not their own. They are also interested in the money rather than the really exciting tech. Suck it up traders....Please could developers return their assets last! ;)

I think a bad mess up or hack and any of these platforms/dev's would find it difficult to recover from and indeed consumer confidence could decelerate the whole industry. It is relatively new technology/ideology and the earlier you adopt the greater the risks....but also far greater rewards! Is it a bubble? I think so, but unlikely to burst for some time yet and by the time mass adoption occurs the people who have followed and studied the various developments will more likely end up holding coins from the survivors when the bubble bursts (most likely the first movers)
This probably doesn't make the people who have lost coins/money feel any better but i suppose its better than getting burgled?
Banks will soon be getting robbed by pale 16 year olds from their bedrooms at their mums house.....Better than a shotgun in the face?

Hi, I had the same problem with the NEO wallet. Not with NEO tokens but with DeepBrain Chain tokens which can be stored in the NEO wallet. The tokens were transferred successfully from Binance to a certain public address given by the wallet and today they are gone and the public address is a different one. Do not know what to do... balance is 0.

Just tried to transfer my NEO to Ledger Nano s from Bittrex, came up with error after about ten minutes saying the address I got from Ledger Nano "not valid" This was the public address I got from Ledger nano ATB4K6U47hnFC7r2aawY5R5BL1qECR9o1H Now for a while I haven't been able to carry out the transaction due to Bittrex/NEO waiting for some updates to be carried out. took them over a week to sort out, and I'm wondering if it is actually sorted? Anyway I cancelled it and it's now back in my Bittrex Wallet
Also Bittrex let me purchase NEO to 8 decimal points, but when I went to carry out the transfer they would only let me withdraw an integer/whole number plus the transfer fee?
when you go to withdraw this is displayed "The NEO asset is not divisible. Your withdrawal amount (after the TxFee has been deducted) must be a whole number."

So to keep you updated, I had an email from Eric from Ledger.
He puts the entire responsibility of all these issues on Neo wallet devs.
For me, he assumes that it's Mew devs responsibility.
Yesterday someone had a similar issue as me with a withdraw from Coinbase, and he assumes it's Coinbase responsibility.
And so on.

It was a reddit post that took together all the current Ledger issues, including mine.
I'm not responsible for this particular post, and I disagree with the very aggressive tone of some people.
Anyway, it doesn't change the fact that Ledger teams has to face their responsibilities.
I told Eric that if I had to wait several months, I will continue to try to find new people.
He answered : go on, it's your right of course.
Then I told him this true fact :
Someone contacted me on Reddit, this guy seems to want to fight hard on Ledger, I don't know exaclty why. Anyway, he told me he was in touch with huge telegram groups and youtubers/twitters/journalists.
I asked him to keep low profile for now because I didn't want to bring war onto Ledger. I still think a private agreement should be better for everybody, especially for Ledger.
I told Eric that I intended to wait a little more to allow them to make further internal tests, but that after a while I will use any means to bring attention on this, in order to find other people with similar issues.
I told me my intentions were not to harm Ledger's credibility, but to solve my issue and get my money back. And that the financial consequences will be much worse for them than for me.
I don't like it this way, but I feel like soon we'll have no other choice...

I think the sync issues on Ledger's network might be related to our issues somehow.
Basically what people complain about is that they make transactions, and then going back to their account, balance disappeared.
After a few days/weeks, their balance finally re-appear, and if they named their wallet, the name is changed to "Recoverd account xxx".
So basically all these people using Ledgers apps don't mention address change issues, but balance issues.
BUT :

You can see that the guy mentioned this kind of issue, AND that he saw a change in his public address.
Some days after, his funds where back in.
My idea is that all this MIGHT be related.

But for third parties wallets, they don't have the necessary informations to do so, and that's why they could try to separate the two issues and take advantage of it by removing any kind of responsibility on their side.

On January 22 I tried to make a transaction using the Chrome Browser and the Chrome Applications My Ledger Ethereum Wallet.
I took several tutorials on how to set everything up and I made a transfer from COINBASE account to My Ledger LITECOIN Wallet and it was success and it showed up in my Ledger Wallet LITECOIN.
When I tried to transfer Ethereum from Coinbase to My Ledger Wallet ETHereum using the chrome browser and its apps something strange happened.
I’ve reached out to Coinbase, Ledger, and chrome support and no answers
The QR code that my ETH wallet initially provided me was

AND
this address is that currently shows in my Ledger Ethereum Wallet

at first glance its very similar but it’s obviously slightly different
I then checked Etherscan to confirm the transaction and as you can see it is under my name and account but those funds are not accessible because that address is no longer the address in my Ledger Wallet ETH

Seems that you guys have also some ignorant problems with the Ledger/Neon wallets.
Crazy things going on...
Funny part is my RPX do show up on my balance also, but when i want to withdrawal them to kucoin he give's me the Error 'Transaction failed'
Sometimes when i connect my ledger my balance don't show up, but after a couple of minutes they do.
Searching true my neotracker and hashcode my RPX is showing up.
Tried several wallets before but all of them not seems to work and can't withdrawal my RPX.
Funniest part is my NEO has no problems at all...

My unresolved issue is after updating to ripple wallet 1.0.3 my balance went to ZERO and the address CHANGED.
I had initially only sent to ripple ledger created wallet rEa4EcGAMYPYeD6J1NaeABKhAwKWBvdRhg from binance and had never withdrawn from wallet.
After updating wallet to 1.0.3 my balance was ZERO and the wallet changed to rGSdve3scc7iw1nfs8FYoKyRH22mn8FXxR .
I tried using a different computer, still the same ZERO balance and different address. Then strangely on my laptop I logged in to a different user and my original wallet appeared. Unfortunately it would not allow me to send , transaction continually timed out. (screen shot below)
I am a complete novice but followed the ledger instructions fully, I only have used one 24 word pass phrase. The problem can only be a nano ledger created glitch when I updated to the latest ripple wallet.
Thanks to numero41 and others for carrying the cause, I hope we together can all find a satisfactory resolution to our individual nano ledger created issues.

Well I have some bad news -FOR NOW-.
These people didn't send a ticket to Ledger, and it seems like it's not possible anymore to send a bug ticket, I just can't find any link to the support now, only the public forum.
I can't post any comment on the forum, they are labeled as "pending approval", so no one is able to answer my questions.
Some posts are just labeled as "closed for comments" even if there is no proper answer.
Nobody from Mew or Neo wallet support answer as well here on Github.
Also, I sent 4 mails to Eric since Tuesday, I don't have any answer from him anymore.
I think they put everything together now make us give up and to prevent us to keep in touch.
Please people don't give up and be more active, I can't do all the work by myself.

When I last heard from Eric it sounded like he wanted to blame COINBASE for my issue

Éric just sent me a mail to tell me they didn't have time to look at all the cases yet, and reminded me that it will take time to sort real issues from user errors (he previously talked about months and that most likely will lead to no responsibility from either sides).
Legally it's complicated for us and easy for them as the exact point of crypto transactions is to be untraceable and anonymous. They will pretty much always be able to cover themselves under user errors.
That's why each of you should do like me, spending time to find other similar issues, on reddit, on github, on Ledger forum, etc.
The more we'll be, the less they'll be able to claim for user errors.

It's also our best chances to bring other cases to us.

“Please help! There is a large group of us who are using Ledger to store our Cryptocurrency and are loosing our “Coins” to errors and glitches caused by COINBASE and LEDGER. LEDGER is the maker of Ledger Nano S and the Ledger Wallets on the Chrome Browser.
Our concerns are being passed off as USER ERROR and Ledger has blocked many comments on the support group page.
I’ve tweeted the Ledger CEO Eric Larchevêque and he actually reached out to a couple of us about the problem but hasn’t taken ownership or presented a plan or solution.
I personally lost 11 Ethereum which has a current market value of at least $11,000. We all know the potential for this currency to be worth Millions. Like me there are a number of us in the same predicament. COINBASE and LEDGER are making millions of dollars and they are passing off the problems and glitches in there system as “User Error”
We all have screen shots and emails as well as blockchain addresses saved in Sites like ETHERSCAN to prove that this problem is not user error.
If you can do anything to help please reach out to me. There are a number of technical savvy individuals in our group that can probably explain things to a NBC technical rep a little better.
We just need to be heard and need to be reimbursed our lost currency”

To be honest, I have no idea myself...
My idea is they might let us down, but I had the opportunity to talk to Eric orally, and he seemed very concerned, and good willing.
But they are a quite big company now, and company concerns don't always fit with ceo concerns...
I think they are waiting to see how many people have encountered this issue, and provide either a technical solution, either a financial agreement. There is also a possibility that they just let us down...

jayrod1892 Have you tracked your ETH from Coinbase to see if it's unspent ( I think it means you only see IN on Etherscan.io page and no OUT). From what I've been reading some Ledger owners are saying that the Public Key is changing, have you checked that the current public key is the one that you used to send your ETH to the Ledger Nano.
If you can find the related key make a copy of it
Do you always use the Ledger Nano on the same Internet connection (See bit about ports below)
I'm not sure how the Ledger nano keeps tabs on the public keys used, but I would have thought that if it put up a different key at a later date it should store all keys where coins have been bought,
As I believe the Ledger Wallet App doesn't have access to the Private key's it can't keep track of all the Public keys that have any coins unless the app stores all the keys used. As I see it might need the Ethereum Wallet updating
Another point is ports used, I had a problem with Jaxx a while back with lost Bitcoin, after asking Jaxx if they were using any special ports and after communicating back and forth for about thee months they finally told me they were using port 8022, I opened the port on my firewall and everything worked perfectly. I believe they have since got around having a special port requirement.
Jaxx is only a 12 word seed phrase, but you can see a range of addresses related to the private key, but it only shows about 3-5 public keys, might be worth playing with to get a better idea of understanding the in's and out's of crypto's
While communicating with Jaxx they did mention that some mobile providers also caused prob;em.
If you really get desperate you can go to https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ and put your seed phrase in and get a large list of all the related in this case Ethereum Private and public keys. Then you need to feed them in to etherscan.io to see which ones have any value. If anybody gets hold of the seed phrase while you are doing this you could loose everything in the Ledger Nano, so remove all other crypto's to another wallet before hand, and then I think you need to reset the device to get a new seed phrase.

Ethereum clients use a listener (TCP) port and a discovery (UDP) port, both on 30303 by default.
If you need to run JSON-RPC, you'll also need TCP port 8545. Note that JSON-RPC port should not be opened to the outside world, because from there you can do admin operations.
All client's ports can be customized from the default.
If you want geth/eth to find UPnP, you'll also want that enabled on your router. That's just so it can listen on a port, not necessary if you've already manually opened/routed them.
About the wiki page you linked, it reports actually just an example:
If the TCP and UDP (discovery) ports differ, the UDP port is specified as query parameter discport.
In the following example, the node URL describes a node with IP address 10.3.58.6, TCP listening port 30303 and UDP discovery port 30301.
I think this misunderstanding is spreading also because of the behavior of the bootnode util. In fact, it uses 30301 as default UDP discovery port.
Hope this gives you some idea's on what to try.

I am pretty novice when It comes to most of this. However I will try some of these suggestions. Is there anywhere I can go for more of a step by step tutorial.
I checked EtherScan after the incident with my ledger and the funds went to a hybrid address of my current ETH wallet address. The address the funds went to has no prior history.

jayrod1892 It's very difficult to do a step by step tutorial, their are to many variables, from your computer/phone, exchanges, internet connection, wallet software, the crypto currencies are upgrading occasionally, sorting out one fault and putting another one in, in some cases.
Most exchanges are having a terrible time trying to upgrade their system and get more staff, because of the crypto explosion last year. I expect this year to be similar and it'll take quite a while for the exchanges to get up to speed, probably another year or two before they settle down.
Also their is apparently a stand alone tool at https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ that you can download and run on your computer , just disconnect from the Internet while running.it.

Hi guys,
Honestly I don't think there's any way to "bring back" the original address by ourselves.
All we have in common is that we saw/used the wrong address only once.
Since then it seems like we all have the same "new" address, which is in fact the one we were supposed to have from the beginning. It has been confirmed for me as for other ones by the bip39 tool.
What does this tool is quite simple. It uses a mathematical encryption function which take several parameters in input such as :
- main passphrase > this is our main "decryption key", and that's why it's the most important to keep
- coin type
- derivation path
- secondary passphrase (which none of us used)
Then the mathematical function will ALWAYS lead to the same list of address.
Like all mathematical functions, if you put the same input variables it will always give the same results.
So for us what could have happened at the moment we made a transaction with a wrong receive address :
1/ one of the input variable (most likely derivation path) has been set internally or by user mistake to a different value than the one that should have been used
that's why for Mew it's always the first and only question they ask, as you can change it manually.
For sure certain users do the mistake, and are able to find back the correct address set by setting it again correctly.
2/ a glich (software one or hardware one) could have change the result coming from the internal Ledger bip39 converter to the app/wallet display
for me it's the most probable answer.
It could come from an error in the javaScript code used by the wallets or the hardware itself (cable, connector)
How could it be related in any way to antiVirus or firewall, I really don't know.
I think most likely firewall or antivirus issues lead to be unable to ACHIEVE a transaction, but not to a corrupted data between the Ledger and the app.
I'm not a specialist, and I don't know (no one does except Ledger's engineers) how the Ledger works internally, as this part of the code is not open source.
About the QR code issue, my guess is it might not be the same issue.
The address looks like almost the same, and to me an tiny error from the scan tool of the phone, or the internal Ledger app converter address>qrCode is more probable. But again, this is only my personnal guess.
Jayrod, when you scan again the Qr code, is the second address coming back all the time now?
For those who want to test if firewall/vpn/antivirus/background apps could change something, just do the test with another computer of yours or family. I'm quite sure this will give the same new address for all of you.
Conclusion :
As I said before, for now I think that the only ones who are able to know where these issues come from is unfortunately Ledger.
I had no other solution but to give them my passphrase (after emptied my Ledger from other coins), so that they run tests from their side.
This could lead to :
- They already know what happened, but unable to reverse the process, and not willing to tell us
- they find a bug and are able to reverse the process to give us access to our coins again
- acknowledge that they introduced/didn't see before a bug somewhere but unable to reverse the process
- honestly don't find a bug anywhere > unable to reverse the process
Will they want to help us from any of these possibilities, I don't know.
I think most likely not if unable to reverse the process....
But I want to believe that they will.

Hi, I am new person with lost address from Ledger...
I sent TRX to MEW with Ledger Nano S, and when I want to check my balance after 1 week, Ledger didnt give me options to choose the same ETH address where I sent TRX last week... how is this possible???
I checked maybe 200 addresses from the list of Ledger in MEW and this address disappear so I cannot connect to this address...

I was mentioning the advanced passphrase option in the security section on the device itself. It's a way to add an additional layer of security to your device.
But if you did this you'd remember as it's a complicated feature.

I have a very similar issue with my ledger. I have made in/out transactions to my ledger nano s in the past with no issue, until recently. A couple of days ago I wanted to check my coins in my wallet (the last time I interacted with the nano was a couple weeks prior) and the device did not like my pin. And of course I entered the same pin 3 times which reset the device.
No problem as I restored the device with my 24 words. It completed successfully. Evidenced by having a UBIQ wallet already available after the recovery. But when connecting the device to MEW, it is unable to find my ethereum wallet address that I put my eth and many erc-20 coins.
I am able to view the wallet on MEW but can not interact to move the coins out as I do not have the private key.
I have attempted to use the bip39 tool in hopes to find the private key, however I am unable to see the eth address in the table.
I have opened a ticket (#13094) with ledger but have yet to hear back, hopefully they can respond in the next couple weeks.
If anyone has any other possible suggestions on how to gain access to the wallet, I would be happy to try them out. Thanks in advance.

As I told tacamaniac on reddit just now :
I feel so upset and angry tonight...
I already spent more than 100 hours so far on this, in addition to 45-50 hours a week job, and I even had to take 3 days off without pay because I was too tired.
This should be Ledger's job!! And now they don't even answer anymore, people are insulting me in pm on Reddit because I try to warn people.
I lose my money, then I have to work for free, even lose some pay days on this...

Yes it's a only consumer complaint form.
For the other links, it's not about build a law suit, it's about having legal advices at least.
And law is not only about intentionally set out to defraud.
I surely don't want to do in law suit business, but for now I'd like Ledger to acknowledge that they had the form and that they'll use it. And they didn't.

[EDIT - 2] Eric contacted me on the 8 of feb, and they are using it.
Their non answer is to me a way to say that they don't/won't care anymore?
So my question is, where is the dialog here? You must answer each other to have a dialog, for now it's a monolog.
I offered/provided Eric my help in many ways already, I even told him I would be interested in developing wallets or UIs.
For 1 month I did nothing but try to help people. I even answer on the public forum or Reddit to questions that have nothing to do with our issue.
I also would like to think that crypto space is a big friendly community, and I even made that answer a few days ago in that exact spirit :

I did get a response from Eric via my Ledger support request.
He has indicated that my issue is not the same as numero41.
He asked me more details about my issue:

-My response - Before resetting my Nano S, I was interacting it with MEW several times. According to Etherscan, I made transfers 3 separate times with MEW.

-My response - I never used the passphrase prior to yesterday, which was when I discovered this function.
I asked if there was still a way to recover the private key for the address, if I did not use this function.

Tacamaniac had his issue solved, he somehow entered a wrong passphrase when he restored his Ledger (I think he'll explain in a more precise way later).
So for now, (without him) we are 10 to have filled the form.

Way to GO OrEagle97327 I doubt the people who are looking to sue have a lot of experience in this new technology?
Is their a list, preferably single line per problem of basic problems users are having.
Have they actually lost NEO, ETH, etc, can they track it to see if it's been spent?
How many have found that their Public Address has changed, This is something I think Ledger needs to address
I personally have had a few problems because I have a firewall that I only open ports that I need? and this has caused me a few problems recently, Jaxx Bitcoin, possibly now sorted by Jaxx, and yesterday I realized that I couldn't claim GAS for the same reason, I bypassed my firewall and it worked exactly as described by Ledger.
As I said in an earlier post it has been suggested that Mobile phone companies may be doing the same thing.
If anybody knows what port(s) NEO/GAS is using I would appreciate knowing, so I don't have to keep bypassing my firewall occasionally.
I did have an initial problem when trying to transfer from Bittrex to my Ledger nano s, I tried to transfer everything (No Fractions) and it eventually came up with an error, fortunately it put my NEO back in the Bittrex account. About two days later I tried again only small transfer, carried it out OK, so tried a larger amount OK again, and then transferred nearly everything all OK.
So I would think that a lot of problems aren't Ledger problems.
I've been in the Electronics troubleshooting business for 55 years, the computer systems troubleshooting for 40 years and still find it a bit of a struggle with the crypto currencies, yes support is crap, I expect it will gradually get better or the companies will go bust
Please stay calm and learn as much as you can about this new technology.

Just a quick update as it pertains to my issue. Apparently I must have rest my Nano S when I first got it and had kept the original 24 words as backup. But when I reset the Nano at that time I also took down the new 24 words.
Last week when I tried to gain access to my wallets, my PIN was not being accepted. So, after 3 attempts the device was reset and I had restored the device using the first set of 24 words.
When I worked with Eric at Ledger, he wanted to see if my Nano could access the old UBIQ wallet. Upon attempt I could not. But after looking at my UBIQ notes, I saw that I had the other set of 24 words that I was not aware of. As soon as I restored my Nano with this information I was able to access the wallets I could not locate previously.
So, I am embarrassed to say this was completely user error. Embarrassed but happy to have regained my lost crypto.
Although my issue is resolved, I still want to assist in helping others recover their crypto. So I will monitor the progress of this thread and offer whatever I can to get others fixed.

I have just realized that you can't get your private keys for NEO using Ian Colemans BIP39 tool.
NEO appears to me to be a bit more difficult to understand the tracking info. Where as Bitcoin is great and Ethereum need a bit of work, The crypto's have a long way to go to make it easier for users to track/trace their transfers
Update on NEO, I have found the "unspent" bit on neotracker.io once you have a page where the public address you used is displayed click on First Transaction Bar and see "spent" to the right click on the arrow to the right on right side of page, this probably takes you to another page that say "spent" with another arrow to the right of it, then clicking on it again should take you to a page where it says "unspent". I haven't withdrawn from Ledger nano s yet, but will have a look at the account I withdrew NEO from.
Update. Had a look at Dong Le's difficult to understand when their are a lot of transactions?

Questions
(1) Would anybody on the list possibly send me their NEO PUBLIC keys that funds were sent to and appear lost. found them on the list !!!!!
(2) Could you also, explain your firewalls setup. I have a firewall (Comodo) on my PC, then one on the wireless access point, THEN my Smoothwall Firewall (Old PC with two NIC's) and then my ISP's modem firewall. It's the Smoothwall one that gives me the problem because I only open the ports I need, and the Crypto's are using a lot of odd ports and the info to which ports they are using is difficult to find.
(3) And has anybody on the list tried resetting their nano s, making sure they have copies of all seed phrases you have used on it. make sure that the seed phrase on reset is the original one you started with, I think this should then pick up all public addresses that have funds in them, unless you already have funds on a newer seed phrase, then just buy another hardware device.
The Neon Wallet must make a request to the Ledger nano s to get the Public key to transfer funds to the ledger, the Neon Wallet needs to keep a copy of all the keys used and have a backup facility built in.
I found the link below on Ledgers support site. MyEtherWallet is being used by users but I don't think they are actually using it with the Ledger nano s seed phrase on it's own. If you've got a second computer that has Internet access that's safe you might try putting MEW on it and try your seed on it, especially if you find yourself with funds on more than one seed. you can put the same seed on more than one wallet at the same time. useful when trouble shooting problems.
Coinomi I have used for 12 bit seed but not 24 yet? But just read it only has support for ETH, no NEO or XRP

And have you tried resetting your nano s, which probably means starting from scratch again like when you first had it. Hopefully making sure that the seed phrase is the original one, otherwise it's probably a pain to put it in by hand. My idea is that it should check for all public keys that have funds.

OrEagle97327 do you have a second computer that's attached to the internet, that you can load Mew on and try loading your seed phrase on that.
I don't think Windows and AVG are the problem, you must have at least one other firewall in your system, ? Unless you have a old blue Shaw cable modem in Canada that puts the IP the Internet see's on your computer, most ISP's modems have a firewall, but if you don't have a stand alone firewall in your system it's probably OK.

Of course there are some transactions lol, just look at the "token transfert"/"view token" sections.
Dates/hours/addresses/amounts match perfectly with my withdraws from Binance/Huobi.
And I already explained that I made 6 transferts, and that I was seeing them coming in my Mew account.
For my case I already reset the Nano. Same new address.
My firewall is window's 10 one, and antivirus Avast, but already tried on different computer, and without any firewall/antivirus.

The problem is not that I can't make transactions, the problem is that I can't ACCESS that address.
This address is not in the list anymore when I connect my Ledger.

.numero41 As I understand it you didn't have any ETH so you shouldn't have been able to do any transactions. once you acquire access to the public key you could try sending a little ETH to it. You may have to find a 24 bit wallet to sort it out, possibly putting your seed phrase in.
You should be able to find the private key using Ian Colemans BIP39 tool stand alone, not the web version as you will need to put your seed phrase in to find the private key.

You need to save the file and then run it, to play safe disconnect from the Internet/network.

2/ I don't understand why you keep mentioning an issue we would have that would not be able to make transactions.
I think you mixed our issues with the threads of Neo wallet, or issues that are reported many times on Reddit already.
No one here mentioned anywhere an issue about not being able to make transactions, all this thread IS NOT about issues doing transactions.
All we have in common is that we don't have ACCESS to our public address, that's all.
Reasons might be different, but the result is the same for all of us : NO ACCESS TO THE WALLET AT ALL.
3/ Several of us already used the bip39 tool, I used it several times for one month already, but it doesn't help, as the bip39 tool give us a set of public/private keys pairs where our initial address is not anymore.
(it should be the first one in the list)
So using a private key that is not associated with this inaccessible public key won't help us in any way.

numero41 You obviously don't need ETH to store tokens, but you possibly need ETH to have the public key picked up when you put in the seed phrase in a new/reset wallet.
I would not assume that your missing key with no ETH and no ETH transactions in it should be at the top of the list, I had a similar problem with Bitcoin when using Jaxx and some my funded keys where still a few pages (20) down, so how many keys have you searched, I know their are milions something like 2^96 and it would take rather a long time to load them and search.
Does the BIP 39 tool create the same address sequence in the list every time you run it?
It's looking a bit like one should run this tool as soon as you have a new seed phrase to check and store some of the top of the list private/public keys for crypto's you are going to use and every time a new one shows up when you want to receive, check it's on the list.
I've checked my 12 word seed used for Jaxx, Exodus and Coinomi and ETH used keys are 1 & 2 in list, and Bitcoin used keys are 1,2 & 5, their are no funds in them now.
Is your current ETH public key now number one in the list? as it still doesn't have any transaction?

Yes the Bip39 tool always gives me the same bunch of addresses in the same order each time.
I generated a csv file with the 10000 first addresses but mine wasn't there.
Eth and Bitcoin are different because Bitcoin wallets change the address at each transaction.
Eth wallets always use the first one by default, even if Leger+Mew allows us to use any of the list.
My current Eth public key is at the top of the list, but never had transactions as I don't dare to use my Ledger again since I lost access to my funds.

Hi Mel,
He just asked me to add a question at the beginning about having reset the Ledger before the moment when we saw the address change, because that was the issue for xcwb11 (when he reset the Ledger he forgot that he had put a passphrase before).
Tacamaniac solved his issue in about the same way, he just took the wrong passphrase when he setup his Ledger the second time.
That was last Wednesday, nothing else, and nothing new since then :(
Looking at Reddit and their forum, it seems like they have much less issues since a few days, I hope they'll come back to us.
I don't know what to do now, I just tried to think and do something else these days, but it's hard.

1) march 2017 > purchase/first setup :
2) 4/20/2017 > Ledger firmware update :
- I moved my coins from Ledger to Exodus before the update
- did the firmware update
- tried to restore from 24 word passphrase : FAILED
Never figured out why (one of my words did not match, my error?)
Reset and setup as new with new 24 word passphrase
3) 4/24/2017 > transferred assets back from Exodus wallet to ledger wallet
4) 8/20/2017 > added Litecoin from Exodus wallet to ledger wallet
5) 12/15/2017 > first use of Ledger Manager :
- Verified Bcash, Bgold
- MEW to acess; moved assets from json-wallet to Ledger wallet

It appears we have accomplished one major step.
The devs have made the adjustments to code so this "undocumented feature" (bug) does not bite others.
I am not aware of any new victims/pioneers like us.
Anyone else have any news on this front?
I have been in contact with Coranos.
Working on a test to identify problem details.
His schedule is limited, will take time.

Hello Everybody, after reading (most) of the upper material I decided to ask for help.
Why, because something similar happened to me.
Nano S Ledger and Stellar app on Ledger.
I created new address on Nano and ctrl+c the address to exchange office from where I had sent 400+ stellar. But the funds never arrived. So after removing and re-attaching the Ledger I saw completely different stellar address. I don't seem to be able to go to first stellar address, no matter what I do.
Funds can be seen via chain viewer, sitting on the address created by Nano.
So for me it looks like Nano changed stellar address!
Can this funds be retrieved?

I have just discovered something useful in Ledger support.
When Ledger closes your ticket, reply to the last support email you have received,
A new ticket is created.
You now have an open ticket with new number.
Look at your user profile in Ledger support.

I used neon wallet to invest in an ico. The neo was transferred to another public key wallet address. I now have two. I can see them both on Neo desktop PC wallet and all assets. The Neon does not seem to support the both addresses and cannot be accessed. Has the bug been fixed?

Hi guys, I think I have the same issue. Let me know if this is the wrong place. I transferred my NEO from Kucoin and Binance back to Neon Wallet after update and can see it in the wallet. Just went to check it and its gone. There is actually a transaction out for the full amount...
I have checked Binance and Kucoin again and can see that they both ended up in the wallet. I did see the total in there but when I had come back to check it was gone.
I can see my 2 separate ones in, 90 NEO and 86 NEO, but now one for 176 NEO out and my 1 GAS out.... WTF
I can see it sitting in another wallet but I didn't send it or ever create a 2nd wallet.. I have spent hours today seeing if I have been hacked and I can't see any sign, if I had been hacked all my stuff will be taken not just this. I think its a glitch with the wallet and really angry ATM. I have seen other topics and people dismissed from saying that because of FUD.. But seriously that is the only thing I can think of .
Yes I should have a hardware wallet. But was only moving off exchange because it supposed to be safer...

We are chasing a hardware wallet issue.
Turns out we find problems across other tokens and wallets related to Ledger hardware wallet.
Your issue sounds different. Hopefully some of the devs here can help.

Wow. This is very disappointing.
I was looking forward to buy Ledger Nano S, because my Trezor doesn't support NEO, but this completely discouraged me, when i see that my money(adress) could just 'vaporize' any day like this.
I've had my Ledger Nano S already ordered, bud had to cancel the order just after reading this, as there is no point in hardware wallet that can randomly change your adress, effectively cutting you off from your money. This seems even less safe than keeping my NEO on an exchange.
I feel really sorry for you guys, I cant even imagine how mad/depressed I would be if I lost my money like this. Really hope this gets solved, but it looks like not much is being done about it...

Completely agree, I have cancelled as well. Saying stuff like user error, when it is widespread and doesn't happen with other wallets/coins is not helpful. It is clearly a hardware/software bug.

Easy guys... Protect your assets - and be cautious.
Our problem...
is forgetting "plug -n-play" is not as common a term in the crypto world as it got to be in computers.
(a small number of us have been caught in an "undocumented feature" for now)
I strictly use my Ledger Nano S, on computer restart (reboot) for now. (clean background memory)
(I still have a substantial fiat value stored on it)
Ledger is going through growing pains, lots of the crypto businesses are also.
Hopefully; working together, we WILL find the solution.

I found out something.
In my ledger nano S, I cannot even claim gas & other NEP5 coins not showing. (Using Mac OS SierraHD). But when I plug my nano to Windows 10, I was able to claim gas & able to see my other NEP5 coins. So, i think there must be something wrong when you use Mac OS (in my part).

Seeing this post; makes me think (first line of this thread) of user posts on "Discord-Neo-Support" experiencing delays in Nep5 tokens and Ledger.
Makes me wonder if this information can be helpful in our data gathering for Ledger.
Love to have access to the Ledger team compiled data of settings; regarding hardware and software of affected users? Infinite possibilities; probably only take a few to zero in on the problem(s).
We have both Mac and Win10 users experience the lost tokens pursued on this thread.
When was the last new claim, of user loss, have we had?

Just received my Nano S last night. Configured it this morning, wrote down 24 phrase. I sent 2 NEO to the Nano and it showed up along with GAS. I went away from my PC for 5 minutes or so. I came back, I entered my pin but it was wrong. Must have missed a number. I reset the whole thing, made sure I got the correct pin and restored it with my 24 phrase but when I opened up my Neon wallet with Nano, a whole new address came up with no history whatsoever. RIP to my 2 NEO.

MY NEO IS BACK. I saw that I was running 0.0.7 so I was way behind so I updated it. It still showed the fresh new account on the Neon app when connected to Ledger. I decided to wipe the Nano S (get pin wrong 3 times) and then recover using the 24 phrase recovery. I loaded up Neon wallet and there it is! Back to my old account with my old public address. Does the Nano have multiple addresses or something???

We have not been able to recover our lost assets.
The number of people with problems seem to have dropped off.
My guess:
The issue causing the loss of assets has probably been fixed.
No one is willing to admit to where the problem was, because of the value of lost assets.
My opinion:
The Ledger is as good as any other hardware wallet, just very limited support.
Not sure what kind of support other hardware wallets offer.
I have not gotten my confidence in the Ledger, back yet.
(Just sits there, no moves in or out.)
My suggestion:
Use on fresh computer startup (reboot)
test small, until confident (in, out, reboot, etc.)
Approach with caution. Check every step thoroughly.
Keep us posted on your progress

To add to that, would also test with testnet first, and wiping of Ledger, then restoring and seeing if you still have your testnet, or testnet history.

I have the same problem, basically a missing MEW wallet whilst using the nano ledger s, I correctly went into MEW through the nano, sent tokens amounting to roughly 2000 dollars and now the nano is not showing the address and I obviously have no access to the private key, I’ve received 1 email from nano support in a week and I’d very much like to retrieve my coins as they are quite a large portion of my portfolio. I’ve sought advice for this issue but had no luck retrieving them yet what’s our course of action dies anyone have any ideas how to get these tokens bank?

Hi, I just stumbled across this thread.
Just wanted to chip in, when I searched for "neon wallet" on Google, one of the top results is a link to a NON-SECURE site, "neonwallet.com.' The links provided to download Neon Wallet do however lead to the exact same links as can be found on secure site https://neo.org.
I don't know how relevant this is, but I found this to be a bit suspicious, especially because I'm a bit paranoid from accidentally installing the .exe file from neonwallet.com before realizing it was a non-secure site. I immediately uninstalled it and did a virus scan just in case, and I have e-mailed Neo to inform them.
I understand the issue of the changing wallet address as previously discussed in this thread, but I wonder if anyone who completely lost their Neo happened to have ever visited this website in the past. I will make a separate post on the matter, but I think this seems like a red flag of sorts.

H E L P !! I have read all of the posts, but do not have the knowledge to understand if they relate to my problem.
I followed the instructions to "wake up NEO" on my ledger Nano S. I ended up on the NEO site, obtained a "send to" address, transferred NEO from Binance. It arrived, I can see it, but I can not access it., It went into an account that seems to have no link to my account.
Can anyone help??? Please??

The future of crypto is not better blockchains, it is the ability to
explain these concepts to newcomers. Probably 99% of the world's population
does not understand Coins, blockchains or the idea of wallets. Imagine
what will happen when someone is actually able to explain these concepts in
a way that EVERMAN can understand? Crypto will EXPLODE !!
In my case, the coins WERE transferred to the Neon wallet but I was trying
to open it in an incorrect manner. The moment I opened it with Ledger and
understood what I was seeing, the coins (and some GAS) were visible.

I am not an expert, not at all. I am the one who was having problems..
BUT a wallet does not send coins from one address to another without
instructions.
What is the address of the exchange where you bought the NEO? That must be
the address where you SENT the coins from
The other address must be the address of your NEON wallet. If you go to the
NEON link on your computer, open it, open with LEDGER, sign in to your
ledger with your pin, the NEON will recognise and you should see your NEO
coins

I have written a response on #416 but here it is again, this is my personal experience with this issue so please feel free to share if that's true for you too.
I just tried this today. The issue is as simple as this: Ledger creates a NEW wallet with a NEW public/private key pairs.
The old wallet is still there if you sign in using your Private or Encrypted key.The Ledger seems to create a wallet for itself on NEON the first time you connect it, and the public address does not change no matter how many times you sign in/out or disconnect/connect the ledger, so to me is seems this is what's happening.
I'm not an expert though, so I don't really know what to do except for not using Ledger with NEON for now.
Until something comes up from either party about this, specifically how to connect your Ledger to an EXISTING wallet instead of creating a new one, I'm not going to use it.

I had the same problem .. I think.
I bought the NEO on Binance, transferred to a NEON wallet, then created a
NEO wallet on my Ledger. I went to the NEON wallet to start the transfer to
the Ledger wallet .. and the NEO in the NEON wallet was gone.
Only after I opened the Ledger NEO app did I see that the NEO had been
transfer automatically
BUT that is the way it is supposed to be! I go to the Ledger NEO from time
to time, transfer in the GAS that is generated to me, and smile. (even if
the GAS is worth $1.00, it still makes me smile)

So you're saying that after I load my wallet I should plug in the Ledger and it will transfer everything automatically (Or I will have to do the transfer myself) then I use the ledger from now on? That's it?

Hmmm lets see if I can remember what happened.
I went to Ledger Wallet Manager and loaded the NEO Icon.
I opened up my Ledger wallet (probably through the Bitcoin app for Ledger)
I tried to open NEO in my Ledger Nano S, but all it said was "Wake up NEO"
So I followed the rather confusing instructions of getting the NEO (NEON)
app. It loaded on my PC, It sits on my desktop screen along with my Ripple
so that must mean they are both software programs as opposed to apps (even
if I don't know the difference)
When all of that was done I opened the NEON wallet, copied the "Send to"
address, went to Binance, then withdrew (ha ha ha!! who new you could only
send full numbers !!) my NEO and sent them to the NEON wallet. They
arrived. BUT my Ledger said '0' quantity.
That is when I discovered that (as far as I can remember) I should have
opened the NEON wallet with the Ledger.
Once I did that ... open ledger, sign in, open NEON software, access with
the Ledger and LOOK!! there were my 4 NEO.
Since then, I have sent more NEO from Binance, but directly to my Ledger,
after opening NEO in the method described above.
and if you know all the above ... if you are way past me in experience ..
great ... but I am at the very beginning of the learning curve ... so
everything that works I count as a great success

And now I can confirm that the Ledger simply creates it's own wallet, which is generated from the private keys on the ledger (your actual seed I guess) and a public key that is auto generated.
I sent from my desktop wallet to the ledger wallet and vise verse, everything works flawlessly.
I think the biggest confusion here is in the way that NEON wallet works with Ledger. Unlike MEW which gives you access through the Ledger to an EXISTING wallet of yours, it creates a whole new wallet from scratch.
I hope that helps anyone with the same problem to date!
_TL;DR_
Just acknowledge that the Ledger once connected will create a NEW blank wallet the first time you connect it to NEON (I use version the latest version to date 0.2.5).
So if you sent NEO to the wallet you created earlier WITHOUT the Ledger, simply open it up and send your funds to the Public Address of the Ledger wallet.

and it does scare the S**T out of you when you see a zero balance ... right?

So i will try to explain what happened in my case:
I originally bought Neo on Bittrex maybe 1 year ago,then i moved all my NEO to NEON Wallet.I was able to login and claim gas with no issues
Then i found out about the Ledger Nano S from my friend and i bought it on amazon.com and i setup as new, with 24 words/seeds.
I moved all my NEO from NEON WALLET to the Ledger Nano S.
I was able to login into the NEON Wallet via ledger with no issues, claiming gas every month and my balance was always showing my NEOS.
One day i opened Neon Wallet as usual ,connected my ledger nano, entered the 8 digit pin and clicked login in using ledger and then i discovered that my balance shows 0 and some gas,like 0.007 something.
I thought it was a glitch and i should not be worried,few days past and nothing was showing up.
Then i start doing research and realized im not the only one
I did get in contact with Ledger Support-NOTHING
I contacted on Twitter Neo Tracker-NOTHING
All i get is" SORRY there is nothing we can DO
Nobody besides me have access to my 24 seeds/key,i thought i was hacked but i do have other crypto like BTC LTC BTG and they are still on the Ledger.
I tried to reset my Ledger,restored it using 24 keywords but still showing 0
They were moved from this address:

This happened on 4/18/2018, 11:39:19 PM and the new address was created at the same time

You haven't been hacked? you still have 419 NEO. 31.34594905 GAS and 41.9 NNC, Plus 0.56598101 Unclaimed Gas to date on your Public Key AcWyPgfSVovTnE5rG6w3KNMCcoipjuDBxP
At present I don't understand why you have the original Neon Wallet receive Key coming up ( I haven't used the Neon Wallet on it's own) I am assuming you had a different Seed phrase before you connected your ledger, which should produce different Public Key(s).
I note you have the latest version of Nano Wallet 0.2.5, do you have the latest Ledger Firmware installed I'm assuming that you have the latest Neo app on your Ledger as you have recently reset the Ledger and reloaded all relevant crypto apps.
I plug in my ledger input the pin and select NEO before I run the Neon wallet software?

I use Neo GUI on a virtual machine that is only turned on when I update, then disabled again.
I logged in today to update and HALF OF MY COINS ARE GONE (And all of my GAS)!
There is no transaction log of the events. How is this even possible? Is there any recourse whatsoever? Where do I even start?

I fixed my issue, make sure you have the latest firmware for the Neo Ledger app (the app on the physical device) and then make sure you download the latest windows version of the Neon wallet (0.2.6)... Same problem happened to me (sent neo to neon public address on my ledger nano s from Binance and trx went through, address showed balance of X neo but on my ledger nano s neon wallet interface it would show 0 no matter what Id do... restore key etc.. nothing worked until I updated the desktop Neon wallet to the latest version..

grishatataru, Looking at your screen shots again, I think you are just in the Neon wallet and it's not seeing the Ledger Nano. the history on the right of your screen showing the receive key, which is the one you used to send Neo to the Ledger, is showing the minus 419 Neo
Unfortunately the Ledger Nano s and Neo needs to be kept right up to date to minimize problems
Make sure you have everything up to date particular the Ledger Nano firmware, you must check regularly for all updates, ie, Check with Ledger Manager for Firmware updates, if their is one available you probably need to remove all Apps before you can carry out the update, the update clears them all anyway and you have to re-install what will be the latest relevant Crypto versions for your Ledger,
If you don't need a firmware update then the neon app on ledger currently should be 1.3.1. Unfortunately at present you cannot see what version you have like most other crypto's so just uninstall it with Ledger Manager and install the latest version, which you will have done if you had to update the Firmware. As for the Neon wallet I think the latest version is currently 0.2.5, I can't see 0.2.6 as neohereo has suggested previously. Unfortunately their is also still a link available to version 0.1.1 which doesn't work, so be careful when updating wallet.
Found 0.2.6 https://github.com/CityOfZion/neon-wallet/releases, I am assuming this is the first place it turns up, it's also now on neonwallet.com

Hello everyone, I have had a similar experience to the above mentioned but i have NOT used the ledger nano S. Last transaction i made to Neon wallet was MAY 11 2018 (05/11/2018) and hadn't looked at neon wallet since. I logged in today to find that the public Address has remained the same and everything else. But it now displays 0 balance to NEO & GAS and no transaction history. There hasn't been a new wallet creation. I don't know if the ledger is causing the problem then if i am having the same problem without using it.

I downloaded neon wallet on another computer and logged in with private key. Everything is there surprisingly. I am assuming it has to do something with the software version.

Because the address AcWyPgfSVovTnE5rG6w3KNMCcoipjuDBxP has been claiming GAS regularly since then. What address is your Ledger displaying - is it AVjDZ7VVz7foeqFmdW2R5okbjr1pTEmEBs or AcWyPgfSVovTnE5rG6w3KNMCcoipjuDBxP? Has your address on your Ledger changed at any point? When claiming gas on the 18th of April, right before the 419 NEO are sent to a different address, is there any chance you approved the sending from one address to another thinking you were claiming GAS, when you were actually approving the transfer of NEO?

@stevesbrain Since April 18th i have 0 Neo on my Ledger Nanos S and i havent been claiming GAS at at all,i noticed as well that the GAS its been claiming,im not sure if its an automated system or you have to claim it manually.
Right now MY ledger displays AVjDZ7VVz7foeqFmdW2R5okbjr1pTEmEBs address and i have no access to AcWyPgfSVovTnE5rG6w3KNMCcoipjuDBxP address.
The address never changed on my ledger and i never approved any transfer.

You sent all of the neo to this wallet, so you may just need to restore it from your phrase.

@grishatataru If you've never seen that address change, and you've never sent the 419 NEO, then there's only a few possibilities that I see:
- That at some stage you set an extra 25th word passphrase on your Ledger, and got a new address with that; but again, that would involve you manually sending Neo
- You at some stage wrote your 24 words on your computer, and your seed was stolen this way, and that was used to steal your funds
- You used your 24 word seed in Neon wallet to generate a WIF, and therefore your WIF was on your computer at some stage, and your funds were stolen this way
- You used a "recovery tool" to generate the WIF, and then copied that WIF + pasted it into Neon wallet, and that WIF was stolen from your clipboard
Do any of these sound possible/familiar to you?

I never kept the words on any computer
I only generated the WIF using 24 words after i discovered that my funds were moved to a new public address
I was keeping not only NEO on ledger,i had there BTC LTC BTG XRP
So lets admit if someone had stolen my 24 words why they will only take NEO?

@grishatataru No worries - always happy to try and help. Given that you were also keeping other coins on there, it wouldn't make sense that they'd only take NEO if they had your 24 words (as you've pointed out). In my mind, the only other situations that make sense then would be:
- They got the WIF when you generated it - however, you are saying you only generated this after they were stolen, so this doesn't seem possible
- You accidentally signed the transaction that was perhaps initiated by malware - again though, you've said you never signed any other transactions
Therefore I am out of ideas on a "technical" level, I am sorry! The only other idea then would be - could anyone have seen the words on paper and perhaps stolen the funds that way? Beyond that, I am sorry to say I have no further ideas on how to assist!

Until one can rule out 100% all other options, the Ledger itself being hacked is quite unlikely (due to the design of the "secure element", etc). Hope that makes sense? :)

Obviously one has to doubt the complete truth of any statement in life, but
our guy seems to be very convinced that all this happened without his
knowledge and that all his information was secure (seed words on paper not
on his PC etc). His statements can be quite curt, I've had a bit of a hard
time following some parts of the dialogue, but that's probably because I
don't know S**T about all this stuff.
What gives you the knowledge to help ....? Are you a programmer? If so, you
are going to be a very popular person for the next 20 - 30 years !!

Indeed - it's quite possible everything was secure, but, it is sadly also impossible for us to be sure! Even if the end user is certain, sometimes they misunderstand, or remember incorrectly. Given that I haven't seen any other instances where money has been stolen from a Ledger that wasn't a result of end-user mistake, that's why I'd be hesitant to report to Ledger at this stage. :)
As for knowledge, not really a programmer - but I do work as a network and system admin, and have experience with helpdesk as well + an interest in cryptocurrencies (and I'm a Ledger user) - so mostly just a 3rd party interested in helping out where possible :)

Is it possible that you created a new neon wallet or something and in the process of claiming the Gas sent the money to the other wallet?
Or did you find a tutorial online on how to claim gas, and in their example, they used the wallet address and you inadvertently sent it there?
How do you think this happened or what else occurred on that particular day that may help deduce the situation?

If this happened while you were claiming GAS, then either:
a) Potentially the same problem; except that the destination has been claiming GAS, so that suggests it's the same (at least not identical), or,
b) A request to transfer NEO to another address happened at the same time, which you signed thinking it was the GAS transaction (given that the Ledger NEO app doesn't give any details about what you're signing - only that you are signing a transaction)
I think either way, you might be out of luck @grishatataru :(

Ok, Did you happen to use the chrome app to access your ledger, prior to this? or did you simply use the neon wallet to check? I had an issue with my ledger nano when trying to add to it where I went back in and it forced me to create a new wallet. At this point, I had never added funds, so it was a non-issue for me, but if there were funds, i would have had to recreate the previous wallet. This, I believe is due to the very limited space on the nano and inability to maintain several wallets.

I used Chrome to install/manage the APPS on the Ledger and thats it,
Other than that i will use the Desktop Shortcut to my Neon Wallet,plug in Ledger,enter the 8 pin,and login in using Ledger

@grishatataru Unfortunately I'm not sure regarding country etc. There may be some IP address information attached to transactions? Haven't looked into it myself. Sadly I don't have many more ideas then - if you're sure your seed was never typed (even temporarily) into a computer, and if it's never been physically seen where you wrote it down, and if you were using all official apps and never any websites for Neo etc, then I don't have any more suggestions :(

Well, here's another one who is desperate. I lost 20 NEO when I opened my NEO wallet yesterday. Balance: zero, no gas, no history. Using a Ledger Nano S and google chrome. I had to update the Nano a few month ago and had to delete several wallets to create some memory space. Yesterday I wanted to see my NEO wallet and thus installed the newest wallet on my Ledger. I had the NEO app version 0.07 which showed ZERO NEO in my wallet. Today I installed version 0.2.7 and again ZERO NEO in my wallet. I don't even know where to begin now. Is there hope to recover the 20 NEO?
EDIT: this is weird.... I see a balance of 20 NEO now in my wallet. So, the update worked, just with a delay.

@scriptonum If the blockchain explorer ever has issues, that will cause you to see zero balance :) As long as you're running latest version of app + neon wallet, you can just change blockchain explorer in settings and you'll likely see balance reflected properly.

@tootall1942 No worries - it's not changing the _blockchain_ - rather, you're changing the _blockchain explorer_ - i.e. the servers that show you the blockchain information. Steps to do this:
- Open Neon wallet
- Click "Manage Neon Settings"
- You'll see "Block Explorer" - change this from whatever it is (likely Neotracker) so something else :)
- Done!

I was checking today to see if there is any updates to my wallet and it looks like GAS ONLY was moved again to another public address.
The ODD part is that GAS ONLY was moved to the new address
When i checked the public address it looks like there is LOTS of NEO and GAS Unclaimed
Can someone explain this? Thanks AGAIN

@grishatataru It could be some exchange wallet or something along the lines? Either
a) they found and are exploiting this bug
b) for some extreme, extreme odd reason the bug causes it to be sent there as it picks up that address from somewhere in the ledger or neo.
I have been following this thread for half a year.. and I can say CoZ behaviour is unacceptable, alongside Neo leadership's. I don't care if this is community lead project. Sure devs can try debug it and if they can't replicate nothing they can do. But this is not user error, this is happening to thousands of people, for half a year + now.
CoZ team leaders and Neo need to talk to C-levels at Ledger, and they need to organise hackathon and involve all the people who lost the wallets.
They need to investigate logs, behaviours, find commonalities between them, and try reproducing the steps during hackathons, with time simulations etc.
To just blame Ledger and take no initiative (even if it is their fault) is pathetic, I really honestly want to hear no excuse.
This is why I gave up neo, as shallow as it is - I was choosing between 2 projects which were equivalently important to me, and after following this issue for months I lost faith in security of my coins, I was hoping it would get solved but I am not gonna take my chances....

HI I was just made aware of this about 2 weeks ago. Used Ledger Nano S with absolutely NO problems. Suddenly zip, nothing. I had previously made back up Paper wallets for other NEO wallets. dropped the ball on this last wallet as I thought I had. All my NEO, NEO blockchain coins, ONT etc. gone. Its on the blockchain but have NO way to access it. I tried thehttps://coranos.github.io/neo/ledger-nano-s/recovery/ which seemed at first a possible save. Unless there is another way to do it? Just too slow to use the Mnuemonic code recovery system My computer just wont go past 300-400K public addresses. Realizing there could be MILLIONS of NEO public addresses. Anyone find any solutions, I would appreciate you directing me in the way to resolve it. If this happens as often as @grishatataru is stating in the above post then that is indeed happening to thousands of people it is indeed a crime. Thanks

I used the recovery steps using the SEEDS and i was able to get private KEY only to my old public address,which i have no FUNDS in there since they were "MOVED' to a new address
I never tried 'Mnuemonic code recovery system"

When you say you used the "SEEDS" your refering to what Ledger calls
"recovery phrase 12, 18 or 24 words" ?
In your case, they were moved to a new address? Not by you, so you got
hacked somehow. Sorry!
I did use that for my Ledger Blue and it worked great.
However for my 1.5 year old Ledger Nano S (yes I did upgrade the Firmware
etc) it was working fine, checked my NEO every other day just to claim gas
etc..
Then for some reason, right around Sept 3-4 th I was attempting to delete
Coins space for ones I was not using.
Got myself too far into it and found that I was at the place "Configure as
new device" or "Restore a configuration" I chose or at least I believe I
chose
"Restore configuration" expecting a good result. Nope lost all of it and
Stellar.
So the "seeds" or "Phrase words" are not working for me.
I can see my assets are still there on the NEO Tracker but cant access it.

Is the link. as far as I can tell you need your recovery phrase words and
then it starts listing depending on your selected settings possible NEO
public key addresses that could fit those phrases.
PROBLEM is I found it, I got up to 200,000 public addresses generated.
NONE of them even remotely matched. So then I came to the conclusion HOW
MANY Neo public addresses are there?
Millons ? You have to match what the system throws out to ones known
public address and hopefully your private key is there.
So by the time I got to 300K-400k generated public key addresses, it just
would not generate more.
You have to scan each of them to see IF it matches your public key. LOL.
The strange thing is they recommend one you search the above link, to
disconnect your computer from ANY internet connection or better yet
download it to a external hard drive.
I see NO way to download it. I just dont see how this can operate, but it
does once you disconnect your computer from the internet.
IDK I am NOT an IT guy, learning school of hard knocks way.
I should have and usually did make back up paper wallets but the Ledger was
working so well, I dropped the ball on this my last NEO wallet.
I appreciate the help, I dont have a powerful new iMac, I have an older
one.
I just dont know how that would work because to test it out, I would have
to give you all my private phrase words and my public key and IF it worked,
you have access to my wallet.
IF you have any other suggestion, I am all ears.
I did contact Ledger support and they just completely dropped the ball on
me, like nothing,
They sent me email follow up survey and I told them what I thought.
NOT exactly what I would call "support"

Hi @WilburT55 - just to confirm, are you saying you didn't write down your Ledger Recovery Phrase? The 12/18/24 words that the Ledger uses to form your private key, that you are prompted to write down in the beginning?
If you don't have these words anywhere, then unfortunately there's not much Ledger, or the Coranos utility can do :( Those words are required to generate the "private key" which all other wallets are based on, on your Ledger.
If you do have your words, then we should absolutely be able to assist in getting them back with that recovery utility, or even just restoring them onto your Ledger like normal!

No I did write them down. I did attempt to “restore configure” my Nano S
But did not work. Tried several times. Then tried the same 24 words on a
new Ledger Blue. Zip. Nothing.
What I neglected to do on this one Neon wallet was print a paper wallet
with private key. Or save the private key other than just using Ledger
Nano S. SO now I am trying to use the Mneumonic code BIP39 method but
that is REALLY slow and onerous. Because you have to scroll through all
kinds of Neo public addresses to find the one that matches mine.
ANY other suggestions would most welcome !!!!

If you're desperate, and have no other access to your funds, I'm happy if you want to send your 24 word seed to me (encrypted, of course) and I can attempt to recover them for you. Obviously I would never recommend anyone send their seed to anyone over the internet - however, if you're currently unable to get them back, you have nothing to lose (and I'm sure you can look back on my GitHub history etc to see I'm not just "scamming" people etc). Entirely up to you - just letting you know I'm willing to assist in this way - otherwise, I'll see what else I can suggest based on your answer to my above question :)

Here is the best way I can describe my history using the Ledger Nano S
I bought a Ledger Nano S about a year ago? As you know, there is a limit to
how many coins you can keep on each Ledger .
I had at first accessed my NEO through the NEON wallet, used a simple
password and back it up with a paper wallet.
As I gained more awareness that it was not entirely safe to use the
password because of possible Malware that was able to identify your
password by getting it from ones
CLipboard, or whatever that feature is called on a Mac. Eventually after
several times buying more NEO and other NEO blockchain related assets. I
would forward these to
an new wallet, I got so comfortable using the Ledger Nano S to check in on
my NEO every day or so that I just assumed it was pretty bullet proof. I
neglected to make a paper wallet on this last
Wallet, I never made a copy of the WIF or other password (dumb in
retrospect)
So right around Sept 3rd or 4th. I upgraded the current NEON wallet from V
2.4? to 2.6? and I noticed I could not see my NEO and NEO related assets
which include a fair amount of ONT.
I thought there might just be a glitch in the NEO blockchain.
At the same time I decided to try to eliminate some coins held on my NANO
S, to make room for other coins.
In doing that I got distracted and somehow, found myself in the decision
fork of "restoration" and "configure as a new device" or "Restore a
configuration" At that point, you cant go back only forward.
I was aware that you had to choose "Restore configuration" with the belief
that this would not be a problem and all my assets which included STELLAR
would be fine.
I was using the current Firmware as well. As I said it worked flawless. .
But was horrified to find out that I had lost it all.

address and will not access or allow my to access my old Public address.
I can see my old address on the NEO Tracker, it has NOT been hacked, still

I believed in this project.
I have a fair amount of ONT (for me) on the NEO wallet and if I am unable
to get that off the NEO blockchain by end Sept. Its my
understanding by communicating with the ONT moderator on Discord. I could
loose that ALL.

Right now, all the efforts of this thread are directed to SOLVING a
problem. Could we have some advice on PREVENTING a problem?
I have a Nano S that I haven't used in over a month.
I have some NEO that appeared on the Nano S app ..... last time I looked.
I seem to understand I might have to update the NEO/NEON wallet and I seem
to understand that i might have to update the Nano S software .. and that
might cause a problem because my PC uses Windows 7 ??
Can anyone give some advice that even I can understand on how to not
become one of the people with a problem?

I think NOT to have a problem, make sure you save you either make a paper
wallet WITH your public address and your private key, and/or WIF or other
associated password when you sign in with your Ledger.
I dont know how to do this myself. but there are tutorials you can look for
on YouTube to explain this and how to do it for the NEON wallet. I
personally wished at this point to have taken the time to do this as a back
up.

S, to make room for other coins.
In doing that I got distracted and somehow, found myself in the decision
fork of "restoration" and "configure as a new device" or "Restore a
configuration" At that point, you cant go back only forward.
I was aware that you had to choose "Restore configuration" with the
belief
that this would not be a problem and all my assets which included STELLAR
would be fine.
I was using the current Firmware as well. As I said it worked flawless. .
But was horrified to find out that I had lost it all.
I had been in regular touch with Ledger Support at that same time.
I had also had a glitch with my Ledger Blue and was sending that back to
Ledger for a replacement and ordered a NEW one for back up.
I also did the "Restore configuration" on the Blue, using those
(different
24 phrase words) and that worked fine. Different phrase words. different
coins.I also attempted to "restore configuration" the same 24 word phrase of my
NANO S onto my NEW Ledger Blue. got zip.I have attempted to use the

words and my NEO public address.
Nothing matched. Ran the "Start index" which is set from 0-20 to extend

only 4 that even had that in ANY part of the public address.
I could see this was not going to work.Yesterday, I attempted to test, the NEW public address that my NEON
wallet
gives me, which of course has NO assets in it.
I tried the same Coranos NANO recovery process and it gave me the WIF key
immediatley on the first line.SO somehow my Nano S seems to have just switched me to a NEW public
address and will not access or allow my to access my old Public address.
I can see my old address on the NEO Tracker, it has NOT been hacked,
still
there, generating gas etc.
I should mention I was using the most updated Ledger Firmware

Thank all of you for keeping this thread alive.
I started it to bring awareness to a very serious issue.
My loss was 108 Neo, on December 22, 2017 (...I have pledged to anyone who will solve this for all)
It was about $6000 when lost, about $2000 now, and I expect it to be over $100,000 very soon.

Ledger finally closed my support ticket; (months ago) telling me to use support number as the RMA number to get my money back from my supplier.

I haven't had any problems with my Ledger nano s. But seeing that their are quite a few having problems mainly with Neo & Ethereum, both of which I have stored on my Ledger nano s's.
So I have been trying to use Ian Colemans BIP 39 tool to find my private keys so I coud store them securely, I couldn't find my public keys when putting in the Seed Phrase, I then found a reference on ledgers website to how to get the right keys for Ethereum, it required selecting BIP32 as the Derivation Path instead of BIP44 and setting the BIP32 Derivation Path to m/44'/60'/0'/ the same settings also appear to work on the Android App Coinomi.
I was wondering if anybody had found the right settings for Neo and Bitcoin for the Ledger Nano s

Hi David,
At least with MEW, you can print out a paper wallet with oublic and private
keys just in case you end up with Ledger Malfunction.
WELL worth the effort which will save your coins.

Hey @WilburT55 - the only thing I was thinking of, if you were to provide me those 24 words, would be that I could try all of those recovery options for you, in case there was a user error (sorry, I do have to suggest it - it can happen to anyone!), or something else that was getting in the way. I have done recoveries multiple times before, and do have a good understanding how it all works - however, if you don't wish to do it that way, then my only suggestions (of which you seem to have tried most) would basically be:
- Reset Ledger, restore with your 24 word phrase that you originally generated/used on your Ledger (not the 24 word phrase from NEON wallet)
- Use Coranos's tool with your 24 word phrase from your Ledger and attempt to recover that way (which I believe you have anyway)
- Question if you ever attached a "passphrase" to your Ledger? i.e. 24 word phrase + extra word/password as described in this document: https://support.ledgerwallet.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005214529-Advanced-Passphrase-options (if so, have you tried that after restoring your 24 words)
- Try restoring your original NEON 24 words onto Ledger in case you put them into the Ledger, perhaps? Seems unlikely, but plausible

But it still doesn't give me the correct keys, which is possibly your problem as well. my question was what are the Derivation Path parameters for the Ledger Nano s as I believe they are different, as has been shown with Ethereum parameters.
It doesn't appear to be the default m/44'/888'/0'/0/0 so I am trying to find out what goes in the 3rd and 4th parameters m/44'/888'/xxx'/xxx/0

I thought the previous work done by "Coranos" pretty much narrowed it down
to using his hyper link format?

Regarding your first suggestion

I was ONLY aware of the 24 word phrase word from my Ledger Nano S. I was
NOT aware of a separate one for the NEON wallet. ?
I did attempt to reset it 3-4 times, thinking MAYBE I messed up one of the
24 words. VERY small print on the Nano S.
I also later attempted to reset the same 24 phrase words on a NEW Ledger
Blue.
For more clarity, and I hope not to be repeating myself.
My NANO S, I used for mostly NEO and Stellar, that is the one i have lost
access to . Both coins and additionally all related coins of NEO on their
blockchain. DBC, etc.
MY original Ledger Blue, I used mainly to access my MEW wallet, I had to
"restore and reconfigure" that one also and it worked FINE !! I have all my
MEW tokens accessible.
Yes I did use the Corano's tool, It I did not work or provide the
private key in the default 2-20" start and end index. I extended that
index at times (slow process) from 20, 800,000 . Nothing. At most I got
only 5 shared characters of my NEO Public key that has "ALTA". in the
public address ! Only those four in the body of 800,000 other public
address keys. ! So I figured this was not working. HOWEVER. I did try
the same process with my NEW NEO public address key (that I did not ask for
but keep getting once I did the "restore configuration" (same 24 phrase
words on my Ledger NANO S) I did the same Coranos Mneumonic BIP39 and it
did generate on the first line of the 0-20 index. It did provide me with
the private key but alas to the new public NEO address which does me NO
good. LOL.I did write down a "recovery phrase" when I first got my NANO S. I was
not familiar with the Ledger at that time and never used "that two word"
phrase even once to log into my Ledger NANO S. I just use my Ledger 8
digit passcode.
So I was aware but never used the "extra word/password" as described in the
article you sent me from Ledger. I never intentionally added that or went
to the additional step but now see the wisdom of doing that. At the time,
I got my Nano I was just new to Crypto and never thought I would need such
a step. I just NOW logged into my NANO S and I dont see how I would use
that at this point. ? I did a search on Ledger support and dont see "HOW"
I test that 2 word phrase ? If you can point me in the direction for
specific steps to do that, it would be appreciated. The Nano S format for
me at least is not an easy thing to navigate, I typically used it to sign
in and check my coins, nothing more. I am now comfortable wit the steps to
"restore configuration" using the 24 words. but not an easy thing to feel
comfortable doing other functions without feeling, your doing something
that might be dangerous.
Having said that, and I cant really believe I would have done this but IF I
somehow. "restore a configuration" but somehow mistakenly went down the
path of "Configure as new device" would that prevent me from EVER getting
access to my coins even if
they are still on the NEOTracker blockchain? Just wondering if that
somehow happened. ?

volunteer? I really appreciate your time in all this. I will be more than
willing to pay your with NEO if you can help me get to my access, so I may
be able to do that.
I also have lost access to my Stellar but I do not hold as much Stellar as
NEO.

Yes I see what your saying. I am certainly NOT an expert on this and not
sure where you get all the info for the particular 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th.
parameters for each coin. I think somewhere in my search I saw a chart
somewhere but have lost track of it. Let me know if you see one. I also
lost my Stellar and have not seen that on ANY chart. FYI> I got the

other sources, Someone who I dont know personally but seems to be highly
regarded for his work "Coranos" came up with that.

Re reading your previous email to me. For me at least I am looking for my
"Private key" you mention your looking for your "public key" ? You should
be able to track that down from whatever Exchange you use for ETH? Just
find where you sent your ETH purchases? That should give you that address?

WilburT55 To find your private key you need to find the public key using the recovery tool for Neo, which you know?
The first parameter (44) would appear to be standard for most crypto's, the second (888) is the number for Neo, and as I have suggested I believe Ledger has used different parameters for either or both of the 3rd and 4th parameters, just like they have done with Ethereum.
Try putting the ETH app on your ledger (should be alright, gets full around five apps) , check your ETH public key, run the original ian coleman BIP39 OFFLINE, 1st without changing any parameters and then with the ledger parameters, you should then see your public key, more than likely the first one, and then you have access to your private key.
Also if you prove ETH is correct you also know that you are using the correct seed phrase, as it would appear that some are getting confused with the Neon wallet and the Ledger nano s seed phrases
I tried that link you sent me again today, and it worked !!!!!!! both online and offline, I saved it and checked against the first one which was 14k and the latest one 283k,

While this isn't in the Neo theme, I think it may help to promote a better understanding of the problems faced by many, or confuse them even more.
WilburT55 also has Stellar missing, Stellar doesn't appear to be in Ian Colemans BIP39 tool, but if you are into linux and Python you could try this link https://github.com/reverbel/seed-phrases-for-stellar.
The code might possibly work on a desktop if you have something like Python 3.5 or higher and Pycharm. and know how to put the command line in or edit the code. I tried running it on Windows 10 and it runs with no errors but nothing pops up to put the parameters in. I'm a real novice when it comes to Python, just in case anybody asks me questions on it.
Their is still the problem of the Derivation Path parameters with Ledger nano s possibly being different, and this program doesn't currently allow for changes.

Hi @WilburT55 - I will answer a few of your comments in the order you made them:
There are no "extra" words/phrases for the Neon app itself, I just wanted to make sure that you hadn't installed the NEO app on your Ledger, and then proceeded to "generate a new wallet" in the Neon software. It sounds like you just clicked "Login with Ledger" in the Neon software - if so, that's the correct thing to do.
As long as you didn't ever use that "extra" word, then there's no need to start now - just wanted to rule out that possibility, as I've assisted someone before who'd used an extra word, but forgotten that they'd done so.
To be clear, I'm not an employee of CoZ or anything like that - I'm simply another user of both Ledger, and the Neon wallet, who enjoys helping folks. I am just lucky that working as a Network + Systems Administrator that I've got a bit of a technical mindset, which does help me when assisting others.
If you were to communicate the words to me, you'd want to "encrypt" them to send them to me (such that only I can read them). There are a few different ways to do this - but one that's still relatively simple, whilst being safe, would be to use the "Keybase" website to encrypt them to me. If you want to do that, you can go to https://keybase.io/soupyowl and click the "PGP Encrypt" button. That will take you to a page where you can type anything to me, and when you click "Encrypt", it'll create some encrypted text that can only be decrypted by me (which you could then email to me and would be at no risk, even if the email was intercepted).
You may wish to do some reading up - but essentially, that "Keybase" profile is a proof that I am the owner of this profile, the owner of the crypto keys, etc etc. It's a long explanation, and I'm willing to write more to you if you wish - however, that may be sufficient for you.
Additionally, another (arguably safer) way would be to message me on the "Signal" platform. If you would like to do this, I can provide you with my mobile phone number, and you can message it to me over Signal: https://signal.org/

Hi Right now, all the efforts of this thread are directed to SOLVING a problem. Could we have some advice on PREVENTING a problem? I have a Nano S that I haven't used in over a month. I have some NEO that appeared on the Nano S app ..... last time I looked. I seem to understand I might have to update the NEO/NEON wallet and I seem to understand that i might have to update the Nano S software .. and that might cause a problem because my PC uses Windows 7 ?? Can anyone give some advice that even I can understand on how to not become one of the people with a problem? Peter

I did this to prevent it from happening again: I sold my NEO and bought some BTC instead.
But I guess you want to keep your NEO, so this is what I would do next time:
IF I buy NEO, I would not keep them save using my Ledger, but I would keep them on an exchange.
Yes, exchanges can be hacked, but it appears that one can lose NEO as well using a Ledger.
If you do want to use a Ledger, then I strongly advise you to regularly update the software of your Ledger as well as the NEO software. As for me an update was the solution. It made me rather nervous as I didn't know I had to update, it was all new to me. Then updating the Ledger software was not enough: had to update the NEO software as well.
But for me, I may buy a few NEO again, but I will keep them on an exchange. Maybe that's like 'swearing in the church', but it's what I'd do.

the "Coleman version"?
OK as I said earlier, the odd thing is I have the public key, I know what
it is.
Just the Coranos did not work, in coordinating the Phrase words to get the
Private key.
But I will try what you are suggesting,
I have a separate Ledger Blue which I use for my ETH stuff. I use the MEW
and access it with the Ledger Blue.
So I can use that and the MEW ETH address? I guess that would work as my
ETH public address?
Of course when I try that it with my Ledger Nano S which is what I use for
my NEO.

I appreciate the detailed response.
Right now I am in the middle of attempting some other fixes proposed by
another member on this chat. which probably take me longer than the average
person due to my lack of IT tech background.
Let me work my way through this and then if not successful, I will attempt
your suggested approach.
There is more to this than meets the eye.
On a general note. your in Australia? I had a favorite Aunt who lived in
Syndney but retired to Gold Coast years back. Both her and my mom were
born in England, raised in NZ.
My dear mother had the misfortune of meeting and marrying my American
Marine Corp father during WWII. She went from living in near paradise in
NZ to moving to Brooklyn NY (Borough of NYC) which from
a beauty standpoint is on the opposite side of the spectrum. Anyhow that
is my personal connection to your side of the planet.
So I assume your a big believer in the NEO project then.
So perhaps you can give me your views from an IT standpoint.?
As much as I liked all the info I read about NEO, I always had in the back
of my head, what happens if USA and China continue to have trade war and
possibly other major conflicts?
Would the Government of China somehow step in and be able to stop NON
Chinese citizens from accessing their NEO or other Chinese blockchain
projects, such as ONTOLOGY? Elastos etc.
Again I am not an IT guy but I have heard about the "Great Firewall of
China" Your thoughts.?

Went real smooth 1st without changing any parameters. BUT did not give me
the correct ETH address.
Here is where my IT knowledge is limited. you then say, " "then with the
ledger parameters"
I understand where those numbers go, but I dont know WHAT they are or how
to find them.
How do you find them and then install them?

I should have added to my last comment, that the directions I used for
running the Ian Coleman BIP39 was to run it on TOR browser which I hardly
ever use but seemed to fun smoothly.
I am also wondering why the "Coranos method" worked for you but not for
me.
Also noticed when I ran the Ian Coleman BIP39 it took me to the BIP 44
derivation path. Not sure that is significant or not.

The Great Firewall of China primarily applies to its citizens, rather than to outside traffic accessing Chinese stuff. However, I guess there is always potential for the Chinese Government to forbid foreigners access to NEO. I'd see that playing out one of two ways:
- We legitimately lose access to the "mainstream" NEO project, but fork off an international chain
- NEO project continues on, running servers inside + outside of China, and we see a little price dip but not much else
I don't see the Government targeting NEO specifically - not unless things got really bad - as it'd be a small blip on their radar, at this stage at least. Time will tell!

For ETH select BIP32 (You get a slightly different layout) as the Derivation Path instead of BIP44 and setting the BIP32 Derivation Path to m/44'/60'/0'/
Not sure the TOR browser would help the security in this situation, if you have a Mac or Windows 10 you can just go to Airplane mode or disconnect Internet in anything that doesn't.

Yes I did,
I feel somewhat like a chicken with its head cutt off, going to so many
sites for info, perhaps not effectively
absorbing what I read. So I will attempt to track down that info. I
currently use Gmail and it has a bad habit of "collapsing" comments to a
format that, at least for me
makes it a challenge to go back and see what was previously posted.
Perhaps I need new glasses. LOL

Hi Steve,
OK thanks for your input and comments.
IF I have learned anything through my last 2 or so years in the Crypto
world.
The old slogan "Knowledge is power" is more true than ever.
Amongst other life's distractions, I am still attempting to gain access to
my NEON wallet via
Suggestions by checxx42 on using IanColemans BIP39 method, slightly
modified.
Which is the part I am struggling with.
My biggest concern is not resolving this by the time the ONTOLGY mainet cut
off date takes place which is supposed to be
done by Oct 1st? They had the same thing for ICON (ICX) as they moved off
the ETH system but postponed it a month when they could see
a good % of ICX holders had not done that.
I don t have a huge amount of any coin. But ONT is one I have accumulated
a fair amount of, got some airdrop awhile back.
So I am hoping that doesnt happen.
Any thoughts on ONT vs NEO?
I find it has become quite a task keeping track of all the coins, etc
splits, forks, moving to other mainets etc.
A bit more interesting when they were going UP in value not so much as they
are dropping and stagnating.
Any thoughts on the topic.

Yes I did try what you suggested for ETH it did give me the proper private
key for what works for my old MEW wallet,
So I guess not sure what to do with it in terms of NEO. The IanColeman
coin selection as you know does not have NEO just NEOS.
If I read correctly, You had success with the

not.
So are you suggesting making the same changes to the Derivation path? as
you did for ETH?

@WilburT55 Indeed, there are so many coins around now it is very time consuming to keep track! Regarding ONT vs. NEO, I don't have a lot of opinion yet. Whilst I have moved my airdropped ONT to the ONT chain, I haven't done a great deal of research into ONT (nor have I accumulated any more than I have been dropped).
Just keep in mind that it would only be ONT you were airdopped initially, or purchased early when ONT was still on the NEO chain that you would potentially lose. I presume this is what you are specifically worried about?

Yes there are. In my case I listen to certain YouTube video people, some
of which specialize on Chinese projects,
I did get airdropped ONT but then because the less expensive price, and the
belief by some of these people, I own more ONT than NEO now.
They believe it has as big or bigger future. So I stand to loose ALL of
it. Not good.
I was attempting to follow a solutions outline in this group chat, for lack
of a better term by Chexx42. To use the Ian Coleman BIP39, changing some
of the search parameters, from 39 to 32 he suggested using it for ETH
which he himself was having a problem with. I followed his suggestion and
was able to get the private key of my OLD ETH address, before I had my
Ledger Nano crap out. It worked! So I was hopeful that I could do the
same for my NEO. alas the Ian Coleman has no setting for NEO. NEOS yes,
NEO no.
Today being my birthday, I thought that would be a great present. Not yet.
October 1st is arriving sooner than I would like.
I thought that they might have a delay but ONT just put out on Telegram
that they have something like 97% have made the token swap as of August
1st. so they are going ahead with it.

Try the Mneumonic system.
It has seemed to work for many people. not for me with NEO but it seems to
for every one else.

I just got another response from Ledger support.
Their standard response is. IF a person chose "restore configuration" you
can get your coins back. If you chose "New configuration" you get nothing
back.
Wiped clean.
I knew that when I had to reboot my NANO S.
Its my understanding that the assets are never lost on the Blockchain, so
if for some ODD reason I really did chose "new"by some God awful mistake,
Is there any point in attempting to regain those assets using the BIP39
Mneumonic phrase. ?
Any thoughts on the topic

I hope I did not wear out my welcome with my emails. Just looking for
answers.
Today is the last day if you are a holder of Ontology on the NEO blockchain
that you can move your ONT off of NEO other wise you loose it.
I have a bit better understanding of the Derrivative path subject now.

I been sending other messages to you via Gmail. Just saw that its not getting to this github for some reason. So this might be a redundant message? IDK I did as you suggested with the ETH and Ledger and I was able to access my old ETH MEW address. Just dont know why its not working for my NEON wallet. IDK. MOST frustrating. I just got another response from Ledger support.

WilburT55 Is your ETH MEW address your MEW address or your Ledger address? I'm assuming it's a bit like Neon wallet as I haven't used MEW. Have you loaded ETH app on to ledger with the Ledger Live manager to enable you to get the ETH public address and hopefully authenticate your seed phrase.
I have just had a reply back from Ledger after asking if their were different parameters for coins and got back an answer saying to use the normal parameters, looks a bit like a stock answer, even though I pointed out that I had found diferent parameters for ETH.

I am using a ledger nano to login and I cant get my balances to show on Neon Wallet. I do see it on the blockchain. I am using 0.2.8. Any work around? I am trying to move ONT quickly..

cryptomitchman do you have the latest firmware, think it's 1.4.2, Ledger Live displays it and as you cannot see what version of Neo App is on the Ledger, use Ledger Live manager to remove the neo app and then re-install it so you have the latest version.

Thanks so much Chexx42. It had to update the firmware. But I also had a bad hash for a coin I tried to add. I had to remove the hash I entered. I finally got it done!

Hello all, I'll make this as brief and succinct as possible. 1. Was using neon version 0.0.7 and Nano s2. Was away for a long while , did not take computer along.3. Logged into neon, zero balance.4. Public sddress still same, and check on neotracker shows funds are still in address. 5. Have not tried to do anything to ledger, being cautious.
Please what's is the best thing to do? Thank you

Do you have the latest Ledger nano s Firmware 1.4.2,
Latest Neo app installed via Ledger Live Manager (You can't see what the current version is, so un-install it and load the latest version)
and latest Neon Wallet 0.2.8

Hey folks, only just noticed I lost 140 NEO back in Nov ... I opened a NEON wallet so I could store my NEO safely and deposited 140 but it went out as soon as it went in or so it seems ....

So, forgive me, but I want to make sure to test it thoroughly.
This is fixing a bug that happened only 14 times between Oct 2017 and Jan 2018, odds of hitting it upwards of 1 in 40,000 given the number of ledgers sold. You are more likely to be killed at work than hit this bug. So I want to make sure it's fixed, and for good.
