Mumble: How to connect a new user

What the heck are you thinking???
Ok. So there is no where to enter a FREAKING password.

BTW I have used mumble for 2 years and it has worked fine, but there is now now way for me to add a new user to a channel as of 1.2.16.
I'm using MYMUMBLE.COM as a server. Have all along.

So the server has a password - to keep the riff raff out.
All certs are self signed since the password is strong enough to keep the riff raff out.

So two of us have accounts that were added long ago and they work.
But I CAN"T FREAKING ADD A THIRD PERSON TO THE SERVER NO MATTER WHAT I DO.

No place to enter the password.
No prompt for the passowrd. YOUR HELP SAYS SO. But!!!!!
NO WAY TO ENTER A CERT ON THE MYMUMBLE SERVICE.

SO IF YOU ARE GOING TO DESIGN SOME FREAKING THING, GET ALL YOUR PROVIDERS ON THE SAME FREAKING PAGE WILL YOU. Why not just let me type in a password on the server page? Then try that password on the connect. What bizzare religion or cult are you from where that is a bad idea? Oh Yess. I love certs too. But passwords are ok in many cases. Just me and my few friends. AND IT"S TOTALLY BROKEN.

GUess we'll go use SKYPE for freak sake.

I was very happy with mumble for years, but no it's totally broken.
No way to add new users.

NO PROMPT FOR THE PASWORD SINCE THE CONNECT IS GREYED OUT!!!!!

TEST A FEW CASES WILL YOU!!!

Hi,

If you've set a server password, the client should prompt for a password as you say.

I've just tested this on Mumble 1.2.16, and it works fine for me.

There are cases where the client will not ask for a server password. For example, if someone is trying to connect with a username that is already registered with the server. In that case, the certificate that was used during registration needs to be used -- that's the only way to get in.

Also note that you won't be prompted for a server password if you you connect with a certificate that is already registered on the server. If you need Mumble to temporarily disregard your certificate, you can use the setting in Settings -> Network -> Suppress certificate and password storage.

The current way to add a new user to a server is:

  1. The new user connects to your server with the server password.
  2. If this was a favourite entry in Mumble, Mumble will have saved the password for the user.
  3. Once the user is connected, an admin right clicks on the user, and chooses "Register".
  4. The user is now registered, and won't need to enter the server password again. Certificate authentication is used.

If you need to look at the list of already registered users, you can do so via "Server -> Registered Users" via the main menu.

If this still doesn't work for you, I suppose we'll have to troubleshoot some more. You say that the user is never prompted for a server password. My best bet for that would be if the user is trying to connect with an already-registered name.

A few cases? Sorry. Don't have time assist debug right now. A friend is visiting and I need to figure a way to communicate between two of my computers.
BTW I'm using 1.2.16 and the network panel has no such options. Only:
Reconnect automatically
Reconnect to last server on startup
Check for app updates
Download plugins

No ignore certs / passwords.option

And as I said, the connect button is disabled.
I have rebuilt the cert, and this is a new local user on a new win10 account, so I don't see how the server could have the cert. And I rebuilt it again, still no joy.
This is the mymumble.com service and when I swtiched my server from a 5 free to a lifetime, apparently the certs went along with it, or things just transparently worked since the 2 of us already there had no problems. It's only this 3rd person that I can't add to the server.

Sorry, I missed the fact that the connect button was grayed out for you.
That means that the Mumble client can't reach the server at the given address.
Make sure the hostname/port combo is correct. Also make sure that you haven't pasted a URL instead of a hostname. Things such as http://something.mymumble.com, mumble://blabla.com, are NOT valid hostnames. You would use an IP address 8.8.8.8 or something.mymumble.com instead.

As for the missing options in the settings -- you'll need to enable Advanced mode to see them. (Checkbox at the bottom left corner of the Settings dialog.)

Oh my god, that was one of the most rude issue reports I have seen in a long time.
