Mist: Ethereum wallet wouldn't connect to nodes.

System information

Version: `0.0.0` OS & Version: windows/linux/osx Node type: `eth/geth(default)`

screen shot 2017-05-22 at 11 32 23

I tried manually logging in and trying to delete the file, but it wouldn't work.
I am not even sure if it has been completely been synced as it was around 75% when it started
doing this. I have downloaded new version and again old version but keeps on giving me the same message that it cannot connect to the nodes. Here is the message on the Terminal.

Clearly it is the sockets/nodes -ipc not connecting. But, i am pretty much a rookie on this.
I have no idea what that means. Can anyone explain and give me the codes to put in.
That would be a great help. Thanks, in advance!!

Works with 1.7.2 stable of geth and this command:

/Applications/Mist.app/Contents/MacOS/Mist --rpc ~/.ethereum/mainnet/geth.ipc.

This is on MacOS High Sierra. It seems to connect to running geth despite this error.

Ran into this issue with geth 1.7.2 and mist 0.8.2 on Arch Linux.

My problem was that I had started geth with a custom data directory, to resolve the issue I started mist by pointing it to the IPC file created by starting geth:

geth --rpc --datadir /my/zfsRaid
mist --rpc /my/zfsRaid/geth.ipc

Can someone address this issue in terms those of us without development background can understand? Is the issue solvable or are the coins gone forever??

The coins are not gone. If you can not sync geth you can use your key store file on myetherwallet.
Goto "Send ether & tokens" then select "keystore/json file" then navigate to it, on a linux system it'll be in ~/.geth/keystore/UTFBLAHBLAH file, which translates to a file in a hidden folder called geth in your home directory.

thank you.

I am really a novice when it comes to this stuff but where would I find the
keystore/json file on a mac?

Thank you again.

@rivaderci88 Try this website for more info. https://www.myetherwallet.com/#view-wallet-info . On Mac look for a directory that starts with a dot under your home directory. It is either .geth or if you used some custom directory will be different.

I have a Mac. I am not proficient with JSon files or anything like htat
but if i have a clear step by step process that works I will be happy to
compensate anyone who is helpful.

I would be open to screensharing also.

@lakamsani I am having a similar issue and wondering if you could help me out at all? Here is a link to more info and I would also be willing to compensate for time if I am able to recover my ETH.

Thanks!

Raky,

Search your computer for the UTC file. You can then go to myetherwallet.com and login with ilthat UTC file to access your ether. Don’t use the wallet app, it’s garbage

Mine started with this command /Applications/Mist.app/Contents/MacOS/Mist --rpc ~/.ethereum/mainnet/geth.ipc.
