Metamask-extension: Metamask popup doesn't show up

Metamask: 4.5.5
Chrome: 65.0.3325.181
Networks: mainnet, rinkeby

When I interact with my application with the above configuration, tx sends don't register a popup anymore. I still see a numbered notification on the Metamask icon on my chrome extension bar and when I click that, I can submit/reject the tx.

This breaks the UX for most of my application's users though; most of them won't know that something has happened without the Metamask popup.

In the interim, I can setup my own modal dialog telling users to click on the Metamask icon, but this seems unnecessary and will not be forward compatible with the eventual fix to this problem.

hey @lsankar4033, we believe this was fixed in a recent release. can you confirm you're no longer experiencing this issue?

I'm having this problem too with the latest release, version 4.93. Metamask seems to enter a mode where it queues transactions instead of popping up. I think a food feature would be ability to turn transaction queueing off completely for some dApps (i.e. - requested by dApp when making the triggering Web3 transaction).

Existing issue here https://github.com/MetaMask/metamask-extension/issues/5171 to focus on the popup window when a new transaction is added - right now, it just adds silently in the background and is very easy to miss if you have a lot of windows open

I've never seen a case where there was more than one pop-up visible. I use Chrome and the instant I click outside of the popup window client area, it goes away.

I can't say for certain now, but it seems to happen when popping up/triggering Metamask from different tabs. Again not sure on this.

Popup is not visible at all. Only number on the Metmask icon.

I see this issue occasionally in the latest build. Only if I've already been making/cancelling transactions during a session. Definitely all requests coming from the same tab. Sometimes it does occur because the window is visible, but behind other windows ("bring to front if already open" would be a good improvement). Sometimes it definitely occurs when the window isn't visibly open.

Hey @bdresser, I do experience the is it possible there's already a MetaMask popup open, and the new transaction is just stacked on the window that's already open? behavior quite often, and I wonder why MetaMask doesn't bring that window into focus when a new tx is created?

I guess it would somehow have to be clear that the previous transaction is displayed first, but other than that I think it would be super nice.

@ldub totally agree, exactly why I opened #5357! Feel free to add additional thoughts on the issue.

We'll also add a "N of M" element to the confirmation screen when there's more than one pending tx as described here.
