Matterbridge: Collect anonymized usage telemetry data

Yeoman used to do this, and it always seemed fascinating. Obviously, very clear opt-out is important.

If there is interest, I would be curious how this understanding might work for us:

  • default to "disabled"
  • have it enabled in sample config, with an authentic, simple ask
  • make data/dashboard public (so ppl can have same insight any core dev might), and link to this in sample config comment

My experience is that people don't really like telemetry even with default disabled.
Would be nice if we get some thumbs up/down for this :)

Good point. Before we start pointing ppl here, I'll admit that I'd be happy to build it first, use it myself for awhile (and other active contributors would be equally welcome to do so!). That way, we could solicit feedback on something where others can see an explorable demo, and the sort of direction-setting and validation it might allow. Otherwise, I can imagine ppl would likely see it as some pointlessly privacy-invading action

Anyhow, in light of that, happy to put this to sleep for awhile, until I have time to create a demo

To keep notes for later:
