Materialize: Roboto rendering problems in Firefox

Created on 5 Apr 2017  路  8Comments  路  Source: Dogfalo/materialize

The version of Roboto distributed with Materialize seems to have rendering problems in Firefox for at least some people. The problem is mentioned here and here.

Tested with a clean profile in both the latest stable (52.0.2) and Nightly (55.0a1) versions of Firefox using this CodePen.

Somebody mentioned in one of the Stack Overflow replies that replacing the Roboto font files with updated versions fixed the problem.

We have to use a newer version of the webfont.

The hinted font files https://github.com/google/roboto/issues/174 would fix this but this is not the webfont, just the normal truetype font.

Do you use Windows (7)?

@DanielRuf Yup.

@fega not a browser bug, just missing hinting information in the font. ;-)

@drguildo please test it with the files from https://github.com/FontFaceKit/roboto/tree/gh-pages/fonts and https://github.com/choffmeister/roboto-fontface-bower/fonts

Dropping the files from https://github.com/FontFaceKit/roboto/tree/gh-pages/fonts into Materialize v0.98.1 seems to fix the problem.

And the files of the other repo?

Yeah, they seem to fix it too.
