Materialdesign: Sort icons are "broken"

I believe the idea behind sort icons is wrong. I personally "read" both icons as "sort from largest to smallest" and it does not matter which direction the allow is pointed.

Don't you think these icons should be similar to FontAwesome icons?

So I'm leaning to agree with you on this. Lets get a few others opinions on this:

The arrows are quite confusing. Why not just fix its direction?

Hmm, interesting, but I would go "vice versa". In my opinion, the arrow should show how to read the bars. Particularly in your case, I would say the left icon is actually DESC and the right one is ASC.

Look at the picture,

• the first line is actually a "standard" used everywhere,
• 2nd line is FontAwesome
• 3rd line is an alternative version
• 4rd line is another alternative version (there is no need for arrows because user usually scroll the table from the top to the bottom).

Arrows (or arrow variations) are the standard for indicating sort, so I believe we need to keep an arrow. I believe the best course of action would be to change the arrow but leave any "context lines" the same in both icons. Line 2 in @sstativa's suggestion would be my vote.
