Material: dialog: investigate opening performance in IE

Continuing the discussion from https://github.com/angular/material/issues/8329#issuecomment-235612817, we should investigate the delay when opening a dialog from a large collection of list items in IE.

Hi,

I think the problem lies in the fact that the md-dialog opening triggers a layout calculation of the whole page and therefore the opening time goes up linerarly with the size of the page. I am not sure if this is the reason or just a symptome that the layout calculations take a lot time in ie11.

Probably related to #8857 . The computation comes out wrong and the animation starts from the wrong place.

@clshortfuse After looking at it, it's mainly a couple of reflows when measuring the viewport (each takes ~300ms) and another one when measuring the source element.
