Material-ui: [DropDownMenu] Why no placeholder?

Why doesn't a DropDownMenu have a placeholder text for when no value has been selected yet? Now the control is rendered only a few pixels wide with no hint what to select.

Ok, my bad. There is a SelectField for this purpose.

for those who looking the same solution. use http://www.material-ui.com/#/components/dropdown-menu with properties hintText
