Localtunnel: Localtunnel self-hosted alternative

Created on 2 Mar 2020  Â·  3Comments  Â·  Source: localtunnel/localtunnel

Hi

I wanted to share an alternative to localtunnel that I did to expose or share services, it's self-hosted and free, it has an GUI and API, it is based on SSH tunnels.

You can find more details here:

The main issue is that you need an exit node, but I am working on getting a node exit for free.
I hope that this is useful for you, if you have any feedback or if you need any help let me know! I am happy to help.

I have seen lot of corporate network blocking ngrok and similar sites.

If you have your own person domain.

Hmm,

It much affordable.
Server costs like $5 per month or use when you want.
Domain cost much less if you don't care about name, you can get even free domains.
SSL is free from Let's Encrypt.

Hope that helps.

Cheers.

@igauravsehrawat https://github.com/igauravsehrawat I would be a noob
with doing my own server/domain like you said. But it looks like your
instructions are very easy. Any idea how much cost this all adds up
together per month (server, custom domain, SSL, etc)?

Hi folks this project looks to be very useful. You may also like inlets, https://inlets.dev - built to fill a gap in cloud native architecture and solutions. Optional k8s integration and cloud server provisioning have been popular.

Keep up the good work on this project.

You might also want to look at localtunnel.me which seems to have an incorrect TLS cert and 404s.
