Lmms: Feature request (usablity): Closing all opened instrument (windows)

Created on 4 Feb 2014  路  13Comments  路  Source: LMMS/lmms

If you have ie. many instruments opened (instrument window shown) ... additionally maybe also the song editor opened, BB Editor, Fx-Mixer, ... and maybe opened effect windows it takes some time to close all "unnecessary" window again...

It would be nice if you would open the context menue of a opened window (right-click windows title bar) and then from there you can execute "Close all windows but this" ... or also via a shortcut - i like this feature a lot on using other software (not dedicated to DAWs - dont know if other DAWs have this feature)

enhancement good first issue

Make a window showing a list of all opened windows. Closing desired windows by clicking a button/X in the list, and a button "close all windows".

I think if you are going to provide a close all windows option you would need
to provide one to close all windows except the one selected or that you are
currently working in as well.

You can close instrument windows faster by clicking on the instruments' names in the Song Editor/Beat+Bassline Editor instead of clicking each window's _x_-button.
Just in case you didn't know ;)

Or is this still too slow?

as mentioned in the opener it would be a "nice to have" feature.... good for the workflow
-> mostly all webbrowser also have this feature (close all other tabs)

maybe this feature request can be implemented somewhere in the future...

It's a faster method than clicking the "x" button of each windows, but I don't think it's fast enough, and where would the window with the list be?

This only works for instrument plug-ins, what about effect plug-ins?
And yes it's still slow.

Ctrl + Shift + W is the shortcut for closing all open tabs in a web browser. This could be added as a shortcut.

Note however that the single-window interface will make multiple Instrument windows rather obsolete (unless detached). Also, we offer a feature to re-use the instrument window in the preferences area which will all reduce the burden of this problem.

what about effect plug-ins?

This would be an enhancement. Probably best for a dedicated bug report, but the same points will apply. Single-window mode will make this feature obsolete unless using a detached window.

Is there anyone working on this issue presently?

No. Bump us if you want to be assigned to this issue.

If we decide on a shortcut/hotkey, then I could very well try resolving this (I have a pull request to work on as well, so I may delay a little bit).

@dan-giddins Welcome! Lets ask @russiankumar if there is a fix for this already done first.

I've dropped this one, so @dan-giddins, you can go ahead on this issue!
