Lemmy: 502 bad Gateway

I installed Lemmy using docker everything went smoot, when i setup ngibx reverse proxy for it, it simply throw an error 502 bad gateway.

I also run pleorma on same server so i checked log there is noting regarding lemmy

In error log I got 498#498: *368684 recv() failed (104: Connection reset by peer) while reading header from upstream $

Check the logs (with docker-compose logs command) and make sure there are no errors. Also make sure that the port is correct.

So the issue seems to be because of db

• Postgress can't connect to IP Permission denied
• Lemmy service has issue with password of postgres
• Postgres password includes special character that is also showing as error in logs

So I have to run docker compose cmd again after making changes?

And I also added Json token with special character hope that won't create issue

So I done reinstall multiple time if you put anything other than password for postgres it will create issues with connecting db.

not solved, FYI I changed the Json Web Token to Random String

Msdtn.social admin says that don't change it if you want it to get it working.

Did you install with Ansible, or manually with Docker? The Ansible installation is easier because it should take care of everything automatically.

About the postgres password, it needs to be the same in docker-compose.yml and lemmy.hjson. The jwt_secret should be a random, alphanumeric string. Dont leave the default, thats insecure. You dont have to change any of those if you installed with Ansible though.

That means that pictrs should be working, since you fixed the permissions.

As for why they're not working, you'd need to show us your nginx.conf

You should start from scratch if you need to do a password change, which needs to be changed in both the lemmy.hjson, and the docker-compose.yml files. Or you could do docker exec -i FOLDERNAME_postgres_1 psql -U lemmy -c "alter user lemmy with password 'bleh'" as documented here.

You need some familiarity with docker to do the docker install. Run docker ps to get the container name of the postgres image. Or do as I suggested, and start from scratch.
