Lawnchair: Bug: Home widget is pulling incorrect data from Google App

Created on 24 Jun 2020  路  17Comments  路  Source: LawnchairLauncher/lawnchair

Description

The 'at a glance'/home widget, when configured to pull data from the Google app (as default), pulls the weather as information, and is thus shown tinted fully white and no further notifications (such as events) are shown.

It's kind of hard to explain, so here's a screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/tOicBw5.jpg

This appears to have been caused by a Google app update, as Lawnchair has not changed. It's possible that either the Google App has a bug, or that the data format extracted from it has changed.

Expected Behavior

The weather should be shown after any relevant information, or on the line above. The icon should not be tinted (the sun should be yellow)

Actual Behavior

Only the weather is shown, and the icon is tinted incorrectly.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install the configuration given below
  2. Set the Home widget up to use the Google app as weather source, and then set the Google app as the highest priority Event source
  3. Navigate home and notice that the widget looks as described

As a temporary workaround, relegating the Google app as an Event source to either low or off, and using a different weather source solves the problem, but means that no Google app events appear.

Environment

Lawnchair version: 2.1-2627-ci-q-merge

Same issue. Google app update removed and it all works.
The question is, is Lawnchair still developed so that we can expect a solution to this? Or is the project abandoned?
Thanks.

My widget is displaying two temperatures. One is similar to Kieron's and the other seems normal (just to the right of the white sun & temp). Furthermore, when I go to customize the widget or go to Settings -> At a Glance, Lawnchair locks up until the process is terminated.

I believe I had previously selected Accuweather for my weather source. Have only had it installed ~24 hours, so not super familiar with this widget's customizations.

I can't get logs now, hopping in between meetings right now, but I can later if this is important.

I'm having a similar issue, sometime last night I realized that the "At a Glance" widget no longer showed any notification nor was it clickable (to access Calendar and Weather). Tried a few things including a uninstall/reinstall to no avail. During one reinstall, the widget displayed correctly momentarily then reverted to ineffectual.

I have a similar problem, but the weather information does not appear in the widget. When I select the weather source as being from the Google app, nothing just happens.

I've reinstalled all apps related to the widget, including the lawnchair, and nothing has changed.

I have the same issue Kieron's mentioned. Some users on the subreddit suggested leaving the beta Google App. I left the beta and reverted to the standard release of the Google App. This seemed to fix the weather issue for about 24 hours before reverting back to the issue shown above.

Confirm. It happened after last Google App update. 11.16.13.29.arm64 on my case.

Confirmed. It happened after the latest Google app update.
Selecting Google as weather source does nothing.

Same here, I somehow resolved part of this issue by using another weather provider, in data source disabled google app and toggle Show date. Now the weather and also the date are clickable again. Now I have to see if other things such as notification are working the same

Seems to be something related to the Google app. Reverted to version 11.15.14.21 and the widget started working normally again.

Yeah it's definitely caused by the Google app changing, question is - is it a bug in the Google app (doubtful, as that would break the Pixel Launcher too), or has something changed in the data it exposes which needs to be changed in Lawnchair?

Can also confirm that this is an issue. In the meantime I'm using Google's At A Glance widget but it doesn't have as many features so not really ideal but it's a workaround until it's fixed.

You can use the at a glance widget of lawnchair by simply change weather provider, and all work fine. Either the notification

But then location isn't automatic. Not useful to me if the location is not automatic.

I tried some of the solutions mentioned here like changing the weather provider and it did fix the weather issue and opening the respective apps when I click on the widget, however I don't see any calendar events or clock alarms on the widget.

I'm a new user of Lawnchair and only started after this issue occurred, so I'm not sure if the widget is even supposed to show upcoming alarms or calendar events.

Besides removing Google App from the weather source, it has to be removed from data sources too. It's the only way for the widget to get the correct layout.

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but I've noticed that sometimes the widget does have the correct layout, and shows data from data sources (most of the time it displays incorrectly, and looks like the screenshot in the issue description).

I still have my weather source set to the Google App and have all data sources enabled. The correct layout seems to appear at random times and doesn't look like it is affected by notifications from any of the enabled data sources. This started happening a week or so after I discovered the initial issue if I remember correctly.
