I am not sure if the following log is useful:

See #1164 and wiki. The directory ~/node_modules/ in the home directory may cause errors on Mac and Linux on VSCode 1.31.0.

If you still see this issue, please create a new issue.

temp solution:

cd "~\.vscode\extensions\James-Yu.latex-workshop-3.14.0"
npm install

It should be a bug related to the marketplace. I will soon make a new release. Please check if that still won't work.

A good solution is to uninstall the extension -> close vscode completely -> reopen and install extension.

I had this problem in vs code 1.31.0 and when I open any .tex file, the vs code will alert an error: "Extension host terminated unexpectedly." I have tried to reinstall the extension, but after installing it, when I just click the icon of the extension in the slide bar, the same error will be alerted, I cannot build any .tex file anymore.

See Microsoft/vscode/issues/67999. Please disable extensions, Live Server and Ftp-Simple.

I tried it, but it still crashes.

@tamuratak

my solution :

rm -rf ~/node_modules

Great. You're welcome.
