Try composer why-not maatwebsite/excel
Tried.
[InvalidArgumentException]
Could not find package "maatwebsite/excel" in your project
PHP-Cli and PHP-Web could be different; try checking that the PHP you're calling from the CLI when you run composer is built with the zip extension:
php -i | grep zip
This is the response I am getting.
$ php -i | grep zip
Registered PHP Streams => https, ftps, compress.zlib, compress.bzip2, php, file, glob, data, http, ftp, phar
Registered Stream Filters => zlib.*, bzip2.*, convert.iconv.*, string.rot13, string.toupper, string.tolower, string.strip_tags, convert.*, consumed, dechunk
Stream Wrapper support => compress.bzip2://
Stream Filter support => bzip2.decompress, bzip2.compress
gzip compression => enabled
bzip2 compression => enabled
So from that output, the zip extension isn't available from the CLI; I'm not familiar with PHP installation on the Mac, so can't advise how to enable it; but a new brew install might help
PHP 7.3.8 cli version might not be a issue right..
