Kibana: time series builder and timelion, group on multiple levels

Created on 27 Mar 2019  路  4Comments  路  Source: elastic/kibana

Describe the feature:
In classical line diagram it is possible to split series on multiple levels. In visual time series builder only one level of grouping is allowed.

I need to be able to add multiple levels of grouping:

Same goes for timelion, but time series builder is more important for me, because it may replace or timelion sheets in future.

Describe a specific use case for the feature:
group on multiple levels. Example is from comparing esrally loadtests which shows the total time and meta information

grouping on

  • cluster

    • iteration

    • number of laps

Another example is metricbeat data, where you want to group by both host and (for example) process name, container name, or disk mount point, etc.
