Kibana: Kibana X-Pack offline on Windows uses 2 slashes instead of 3, file://c:/

Kibana version: 5.0.0

Elasticsearch version: 5.0.0

Server OS version: Windows 10

Browser version: n/a

Browser OS version: n/a

Original install method (e.g. download page, yum, from source, etc.): zip files for Windows

Description of the problem including expected versus actual behavior:
Offline install of x-pack doesn't work on Kibana.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. follow instructions here; https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/x-pack/current/installing-xpack.html using:
    https://artifacts.elastic.co/downloads/kibana-plugins/x-pack/x-pack-5.0.0.zip
D:\5.0.0\kibana>bin\kibana-plugin.bat install  file:///D/5.0.0/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip
Attempting to transfer from file:///D/5.0.0/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip
Error: ENOTFOUND
Attempting to transfer from https://artifacts.elastic.co/downloads/kibana-plugins/file:///D/5.0.0/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip/file:///D/5.0.0/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip-5.0.0.zip
Plugin installation was unsuccessful due to error "No valid url specified."

D:\5.0.0\kibana>bin\kibana-plugin.bat install  file:///D:\\5.0.0\\kibana\\x-pack-5.0.0.zip
Attempting to transfer from file:///D:\\5.0.0\\kibana\\x-pack-5.0.0.zip
Error: ENOTFOUND
Attempting to transfer from https://artifacts.elastic.co/downloads/kibana-plugins/file:///D:\\5.0.0\\kibana\\x-pack-5.0.0.zip/file:///D:\\5.0.0\\kibana\\x-pack-5.0.0.zip-5.0.0.zip
Plugin installation was unsuccessful due to error "No valid url specified."

D:\5.0.0\kibana>
  1. I've tried many variations on the file:/// path both relative and absolute. But in every case, the error shows https://artifacts.elastic.co/downloads/kibana-plugins/ and then my file:/// path appended to that.
  2. I'm on Windows and only have the Windows kibana-plugin.bat file, but I still tried in both a Windows cmd shell and a gitbash shell and couldn't get it to work.

Here's 5.0 on Windows 10 working with 2 slashes;

D:\5.0.0\kibana>bin\kibana-plugin.bat install  file://d:/5.0.0/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip
Attempting to transfer from file://d:/5.0.0/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip

Fails the same on Ubuntu also;

oops, got it to work on Ubuntu (was missing a slash). I'll try more on Windows;

root@mediacenter:/usr/share/kibana# bin/kibana-plugin install file:///usr/share/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip

Plugin x-pack already exists, please remove before installing a new version

Interesting that in #7133 djschny says in 4.6.1 it took 3 slashes.

Here's 5.0 on Windows 10 working with 2 slashes;

D:\5.0.0\kibana>bin\kibana-plugin.bat install  file://d:/5.0.0/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip
Attempting to transfer from file://d:/5.0.0/kibana/x-pack-5.0.0.zip

Kibana version: 5.0.0
Elasticsearch version: 5.0.0
Server OS version: Windows 8.1

I couldn't get this to work with two slashes or three.
My workaround was to install from the folder containing the x-pack zipfile, using "file:x-pack-5.0.0.zip" as the file location

@LeeDr Thanks ! It's works for me :+1:
