I bypassed the problem by using it on Colaboratory, no issues there while installing.
These are all platform specific issues with your python installation. Not keras-retinanet bugs. We don't have the resources to help people with installing python on their system, so I'm closing this issue. If you have an issue like this, please try the python support channels.
On the other hand, if you actually track down a portability bug, please do report it here.
@kritdikoon I solved the problem with a combination of the following:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install python3-dev
sudo apt-get install python-dev
sudo apt-get install libevent-dev
sudo apt-get install build-essential

I bypassed the problem by using it on Colaboratory, no issues there while installing.

@kritdikoon I finally managed to install it on my Manjaro Linux distro. First thing I tried was to install gcc with conda install gcc but it still did not work. Then I tried to install prophet, a facebook library for time series analysis and forecasting (I knew it depended on gcc as well) and after that I was able to install keras-retinanet, with no errors.
So, the steps I took were:
conda install -c conda-forge fbprophetpip install . --user within the cloned repo folderHope this helps, cheers
