Is support for the AV1 codec (in WebM container) on the roadmap? Is it even possible since Kap uses Aperture (and thus AVFoundation)?
IssueHunt Summary
We already use ffmpeg for WebM, so when ffmpeg supports AV1, we could too. I think it's way too early though. I haven't seen any adoption of AV1 yet. I'm not even sure if it's production-ready.
@sindresorhus Ah, cool. I was wondering how it included WebM since it's not part of AVFoundation.
FFmpeg 4 supports AV1, so once https://github.com/kribblo/node-ffmpeg-installer/issues/11 is fixed, we can add support.
node-ffmpeg-installer has been updated now if you want to try it.
Thanks, @kribblo! Will do :)
@issuehunt has funded $100.00 to this issue.
We should also support .avifs, which is animated AVIF, the equivalent to GIF, but with much better quality and decoding performance.
We're blocked by ffmpeg support though: https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/7621
