I would move on and consider this module as Unmaintained

Exactly what we are thinking of doing, already implemented PoC solution using https://kafka.js.org/, also it is sponsored by Confluent Cloud , so it's unlikely for it to become unmaintained anytime soon.

Our team stopped using this module a few years ago so I no longer have opportunities to work on it during company hours.
