Check if removing the extra --- around the metadata will make your paper compile. After the fix in the Markdown file, use @whedon generate pdf alone in a comment here to recompile.

@openjournals/dev — we've got some compilation error happening here that I don't understand. Can you help?
@whedon generate pdf
Attempting PDF compilation. Reticulating splines etc...
I corrected the error, there was a missing tag in the metadata.
@mbobra can you handle this submission?
@whedon assign @mbobra as editor
OK, the editor is @mbobra
@stfbnc Do you have any suggestions for potential reviewers from this list of JOSS referees?
I suggest (from the list):
Thanks for the email @mbobra. More than happy to review this submission.
I've encountered DFA in a few papers I've read (mostly applied to climate science) but I'm no expert, so hoping to learn more by reviewing fathon.
@whedon assign @ali-ramadhan as reviewer
OK, the reviewer is @ali-ramadhan
@whedon add @ashwinvis as reviewer
OK, @ashwinvis is now a reviewer
@whedon start review
OK, I've started the review over in https://github.com/openjournals/joss-reviews/issues/1828. Feel free to close this issue now!
