Jitsi-meet: Firefox ESR seems not working when falling back to TURN server

## Description

When traffic is restricted on port udp 10000, a Firefox browser client show people present in conversation, but audio/video stream is empty (a black screen).

This work using Chromium.

I could not test using Firefox current version.

## Current behavior

The person are present in the conversation window of the firefox user, and the firefox user appears as present in the screen of other people.

But no audio/video stream is shown.

The logs from the firefox ESR user when a first participant appears, and the disappears:

Using tcpdump, no traffic is exchanged with the host, except for "keep alive" request (request to /http-bind/room=test4445.

## Expected Behavior

The video/audio stream is exchanged with other participants.

## Steps to reproduce

1. Block udp exchanges to the server using iptables or another method:

sudo iptables -A INPUT -p udp -s visio443.xxx.be --sport 10000 -j DROP
sudo iptables -A OUTPUT -p udp -d visio443.xxx.be --dport 10000 -j DR

1. Start a conversation using firefox ESR and wait for other participants to join the conversation
2. when connected, check that the traffic does not use the port 10000 using tcpdump

@damencho I still do not know if this is useful, the fullchain of the certs are generated by letsencrypt:

cert=/etc/letsencrypt/live/visio443.xxx.be/fullchain.pem

I do not see any warnings in the log when I started the coturn server.

We have the exact same issue but are using the latest firefox version 75. We are using a fullchain Lets Encrypt certificate and about:webrtc does not show any ice/tun server. Chrome works flawlessly

same here, Firefox 76, console gives me error "[modules/RTC/BridgeChannel.js] <_send>: Bridge Channel send: no opened channel."

Chrome works without issue.

Though, I am using a self signed certificate on LAN. My server is not public facing yet.

Same here. Chrome is working fine with the TURNS 443/TCP but Firefox not. There are no candidates for TCP/443 in Firefox about:webrtc.

We are experiencing this same issue, also with both FF ESR 68.5 and FF 75. In our case the issue seems to be related with Firefox behind a Proxy Server. The behavior we are seeing is that FF tries to setup direct connections, circumventing the proxy server. Chrome does not have this behavior and routes all traffic through the proxy server.

Sorry, we haven't been able to get to it. Is it possible that FF is able to gather only TURN/UDP and not TURN/TCP candidates ? On the client, we were filtering out the TURN over UDP candidates. Can you please check about:webrtc on FF and get a screenshot of all the ice candidates FF is able to gather ?

I have still this problem. I can see webRTC conection in about:webrtc but there is no sound and no video from firefox. Chrome works fine. Is there any progress or ideas? I even don't know if this is a Firefox Bug or in Jitsi / turn ;)

I assume ff has issues with encrypted turn.

Since WebRTC is encrypted by design, this should no problem.

This behavior is not fully verified by me. It would need another test with an dedicated turns server which I never set up. I know that Jitsis own servers are working with Firefox (@damencho said that), I dont know if they‘re turns or turn.

Maybe some other user could provide more experience.

It seems to work on meet.jit.si with firefox. I captured the traffic from my client to port 443 and there is many encrypted traffic when the camera is enabled. I can see the picture too. But I don't get the problem then. In my configuration chrome works fine and just firefox seems to have problems connecting to the turns server correctly.

I blocked 10000 udp on the client locally (windows firewall).

I found an old entry in the nextcloud forums:

if you are behind a NAT, try to NOT set listening/relay/external IPs. These are only required when not behind NAT and I also faced issues when setting them.

I commented this settings out with "#" and now it works fine. Also there is no longer the external IP but the internal IP on the left side in about:webrtc with the "relay-tls" connection.

Makes not really sense to me. If I read the documentation from coturn you need to set "external-ip" when you are behind a NAT.
