I'm on Linux Ubuntu Mate 20.04 Raspberry Pi ARM64 edition. I've successfully installed the JabRef snap from the snap store following the snap instructions here https://docs.jabref.org/collect/jabref-browser-extension
I've also installed the browser extension for both Firefox and Chromium. However when I try to run the final step - connecting the package to the extension - I run up against the following error:

Ok, so it appears the version of JabRef I 'installed' was not really installed. I have tried building from scratch with the latest JDK and I get the following. Is there a method for building JabRef on an ARM64?

Looks like there is a problem with the openjfx cache folder. I googled a bit and found the following threads, hopefully they solve your problem:

@tobiasdiez we should probably sort this in the main repo, since the snap is available on all architectures.
If it isn't building properly it should be disabled on those architectures.
@LyzardKing @tobiasdiez Note that the above output I posted is not when trying to install via Snap, but occurs when I clone the main repo and try to build. Presumably this is because the build tools supplied are only for an AMD64 architecture. When I try to install the snap it simply returns an error stating:

but exists on other architectures (amd64).
Which I guess it expected behaviour if the snap is not supported on arm64 architectures. I guess essentially my question is, can I build jabref manually on an arm architecture?

@diatomicDisaster The ./gradlew run should work. But your error suggests an issue with the jdk installation.
You could try to use the jdk14 from here: https://bell-sw.com/pages/downloads/

However I have been able to install a working version of JabRef via the Ubuntu repo directly, the problem I then have is that when I try to link the browser extension. Following the instructions given here https://docs.jabref.org/collect/jabref-browser-extension (granted they are for Debian, but they should be the same for Ubuntu as a derivative?) I get the following error message in the Firefox browser console:

There is no 'mozilla' directory located in /usr/lib on ubuntu so I added the json to my home directory with:

@Siedlerchr Apologies, it's hot today. I've built it 'successfully' (no errors during the process) with the correct (14) JDK from Bellsoft. But I can't run the compiled binary jabref/build/image/bin/JabRef. It seems to give the same error as I experienced when installing the snap package. Where it complains about not being able to load an AMD64 '.so' on an AARCH64 platform.
Edit: FWIW I have checked the openjfx directory (~/.openjfx/cache/14/) and the .so libraries are there, so I think it's an AMD/ARM issue.
For now I can at least use the binary from the apt repository, but it would be good to have proper browser integration.

@tobiasdiez we should probably sort this in the main repo, since the snap is available on all architectures.
If it isn't building properly it should be disabled on those architectures.
