I first installed jekyll using apk add ruby, followed by gem install bundler jekyll. The process failed with various errors.
I'm using build 40.

The ruby package doesn't include all of ruby. Does it work better if you install ruby-full?

It still failed with the same error (can't find header files for ruby. extconf failed) while building gem native extension for ruby_http_parser.
(I reinstalled ish and tried again with ruby-full)

Just checked and for some reason even ruby-full isn't all of ruby. Try installing ruby-dev in addition?

can you use bundle exec jekyll serve ? Bundler et jekyll installs are fine for me but still getting an error with this command.

I鈥檓 having a problem installing Jekyll - I鈥檝e installed ruby, ruby-dev and ruby-full. Bundler installs fine, but installing Jekyll fails with

As file watching support is missing, I managed to get Jekyll working by running bundle exec jekyll serve 鈥攏o-watch I鈥檒l need to run the command again to see changes, but I can live with that.
For reference, I needed to install alpine-sdk, ruby-dev, ruby-full and libffi-dev to get the install to complete successfully.

Closing now, since the only thing that seems to be missing is inotify, and that should be its own issue.
