Hello! Thank you for opening your first issue in this repo. It鈥檚 people like you who make these host files better!
Is something wrong with the HTTPS source in the README?
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/StevenBlack/hosts/master/hosts
It also can't be reached by AdAway. AdAway has never been able to reach it even before actually.
Then AdAway has a problem.
@VincentJoshuaET does the JSDelivr proxy work? https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/gh/StevenBlack/hosts/hosts
@lightswitch05 I just opened https://www.jsdelivr.com/ with Little Snitch active. It calls 14 domains, at least. That's nasty.

Wow... uBlock Matrix doesn't show near that many

Its not a great option, but I am curious if it works or not since it can proxy any content on Github. Their privacy policy as a CDN isn't the worst. But they have a different privacy policy per their website.
jsDelivr might use information about downloaded files to build download stats per project and per file.
jsDelivr does not store any user data and does not track any users in any way.

Here are the relevant policies of our CDN providers:
- Cloudflare
- MaxCDN
- Fastly
- Only in China Quantil
@StevenBlack that's because we run our RUM script on the website to measure performance of individual CDN providers. The CDN domain is completely separated and doesn't serve anything else than the requested content. Full privacy policy is also available here.

@PerfectSlayer @Vankog
Please look at this as this is in some part your issue.
Indeed, your application don't work with https://raw.githubusercontent.com (which is a well known domain for all GitHub users by the way) as mentioned by @lightswitch05 and @VincentJoshuaET previously.
Also, if I remember correctly from the past discussion here, your application use or propose this repository by default so your application logic may have a problem if it simply can't pull the file.
Have a nice day/night.
Cheers,
Nissar
Hi all,
As stated in the release post, AdAway will only support HTTPS source and it's on purpose.
It is the default policy and Android 9 and there is a lot of reasons why HTTP should not be use. That was already discussed. For example, as the hosting domains are known in advance, all domains must be allowed in HTTP. Which is a really bad idea considering a root application which write system configuration.
HTTPS is now supposed to be everywhere. It's even free with Let's Encrypt! Browsers now put a lot of red in URL banner for HTTP served domain and you can't post a form without a warning. If I you really want an HTTP hosts, you could download it on your device and add it as file:// resource or use some HTTPS proxy (which is not a really a good for security concern).
About https://raw.githubusercontent.com on AdAway, it should work. Some users report it works. I also tried, it seems to work. If it does not work for you, you are welcome to share a proper bug report (see https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md#reporting-bugs) in the AdAway project. 鈽猴笍
(Please note raw.githubsercontent.com server implementation does not share the Last-Modified information so you won't be notified of updates. I'm working on a workaround requesting GitHub API v3 but no ETA yet).
discussion about this is in #AdAway/AdAway#700
As an alternative (for now), please follow #731 (comment).
ok with sbc (steven black), but there are two more that don't work with https:
http://sysctl.org/cameleon/hosts.win and
http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.txt
are there any alternatives for these?
@patrickdrd http://sysctl.org/cameleon/hosts.win is not maintained anymore, hasn't been for a while now(like year or so). Therefore you need to download it only once, put it,let's say in your google drive and fetch it from there.Remember, using it together with StvenBlack's one, there are approximately 12,000+ duplicates and around 1800 dead domains. Not sure is it worth the effort to be honest. You won't lose much without it.
Just tried the GitHub hosts link, it does work. But yeah, unknown update status is shown.
@VincentJoshuaET I just implemented the workaround (not released yet).
