We should own our search experience as it's a key part of .org and the current search experience isn't great.
They're used for the global search and the plugin library.
My preference as well would be we move to a full-page search page.
Hi Kyle, Kevin from Algolia here - How can we help you improve your search experience?
And as for the full-page search page, we can help with that too as we recently built that ourselves for our homepage, built on Gatsby of course.
The search is great 鈥斅爓e just want to move to our own component library! One way perhaps that'd help is to extract a simpler/smaller library that's easy for us to wrap in e.g. https://github.com/downshift-js/downshift? Or maybe you already have that?
If you're referring to DocSearch, we've been working on a POC with Downshift that may make it to DocSearch.js v3 on the next
branch. This results in a final bundle twice smaller, and more modularity to import only what you need.
It might take some time before we dedicate more people to the project and we officially move forward. Let me know if you'd like to beta-test it!
We'd love to get your inputs about what you believe would make the search experience better both in terms of DX and UX!
As a big fan of Gatsby, and as a person working at Algolia, I'd love to see both Gatsby and Algolia gets improved together! 馃槃
Working on DocSearch and I second @francoischalifour. We are aware of that and will release it on beginning of September. Join the Facebook team as our beta users 馃殌馃殌
To add more context, here's some background on where the Algolia setup needs to be adjusted: https://github.com/gatsbyjs/gatsby/issues/12503
We also got in touch in the Algolia repo: https://github.com/algolia/docsearch-configs/issues/783
Thanks for the details. We will soon show our first beta to some users. Would you like to do a 30minutes to use your feedback?
We will be happy to use int as an input with our @francoischalifour
@s-pace sure, that'd be awesome. Want to e-mail me at [email protected]?
Great news, @francoischalifour will help you and present you his awesome work!
Since www
isn't public anymore I've noted this internally as a ticket.
@LekoArts FYI DocSearch v3 is now live on many websites including React Native, Tailwind, Vue 3, etc. It doesn't rely on Downshift anymore but is custom built.
Good to know, thanks! Also noted that in the ticket.
