OK, I got it to work by deleting package-lock.json on my project.

Then npm i completes successfully.

I ran into this problem in a Mac (High Sierra) after installing node using homebrew. Homebrew installs the latest version, in this case node ~10. I tried all sorts of workarounds and nothing helped, however, after downgrading to node ~8 everything worked like a charm.

I told nvm to use node ~8 (as per @fcalderon) and the errors went away, so hope that helps someone.
