Friendica: frio: Public timeline too wide / logged in timeline too small

Created on 8 Nov 2017  路  3Comments  路  Source: friendica/friendica

When I'm not logged in, the public visible timeline is very wide, what could be a good thing if not all the images are far to big. It's not even possible to see an normal image without scrolling. If im logged in then the timeline is much less wide. Why?

  1. Could you define a "max with" with pictures? So it doesn't scale depending to the with
  2. Please widen the timeline when logged in. It would help on displays that are wider then high.
  3. Remove the white bar, that is not used, when not logged in.

The behavior of the home page depends on the config of the instance. On a single-user instance, the home page will show the specific user status page (with all their posts). On a multi-user instance it apparently shows the login page.

Hi @hoergen, could you provide a URL example of a logged out timeline with an oversized image?

As for the questions:

  1. Yes we can!
  2. I'm sorry we won't do it. Comfortable reading width on a screen is around 600px, more than that and your eyes can't reliably find the next line in a paragraph. The problem isn't Friendica but the screens made to display video intended for movie theaters. I suggest moving menu bars on the sides like I do or to flip your display.
  3. Sounds reasonable.

The strange thing is if you put /community on the end of your address there, you see it "normal" and then notice that Community is displayed in that blank white bar. The same is true when you visit someones profile /profile/, the white bar shows you the "navigation" for the users profile areas. For my node just visiting my url takes you to the login page and I do not see the behavior you picture.
