August 30th, 2020 - is the last day of 5.5 LTS support.
Are there any plans on upgrading to the next LTS?
It has nothing to do with Laravel. There are two parts here:
@freescout-helpdesk hey, I meant Laravel versioning LTS / Long Term Support (not TLS as SSL).
Aka, upgrading from 5.5 to 6
We don't have plans upgrading Laravel version. Are you experiencing any problems?
Not necessary and you can always do workarounds.
It's more of a question about extra coding, while using libraries that have min requirements newer than 5.5 (or using older releases or just coding them from scratch).
and again, security - IF there are any vulnerabilities found, Laravel won't announce or fix them for 5.5 branch anymore.
Any further plans to upgrade to maybe > Laravel 8.1? You mentioned several times in #432 #329 #254 that no update is planned, however, the version is now fully out of support and keeping security in mind, it'd be a good idea to update sometime soon imo. Additionally, PHP8 will be released in about a month and I suppose many users are keen to update to it, thus Freescout should be compatible sometime.
We will try to make FreeScout compatible with PHP8. No plans to upgrade Laravel version.
An particular reason why you resist upgrading Laravel? Laravel 5.5 is fully EOL.
As expected Freescout is not working with PHP8. Appears to be not only a Laravel issue but also of other depencies, however it seems like a Laravel upgrade is now mandatory to make this work with PHP8.
Laravel 6 is the oldest version of Laravel that will be supporting PHP8 according to the blog post: https://blog.laravel.com/laravel-php-8-support Would favor if already upgrading, going right to the latest version to save the hassle for PHP8.1 which might be released after Laravel 6 support ends.
Laravel 5.5 only officially works up to PHP 7.2. There are known issues with PHP 7.3 and even more with 7.4.
Laravel 5.5 certainly doesn't work on PHP 8.
You really have no option but to upgrade to Laravel 6 LTS. I can help you with this process for free - hit me up.

I'd like to see an update too. I'm interested in experimenting with FreeScout to reduce my company's SaaS dependencies, but using an EOL Laravel is a non-starter for me. Why no interest?
